I just got this game, and I have some questions. How do you turn the camera on? After a mission I got to video replay and it says no files. Oh and my guns always jam or something after a few seconds of continuos fire. It didn't come with a manual. Any suggestions?IP: Logged |

The guns jam because it is relistic! A 3 second burst can cause a gun jam.....As for the camera I can't remember how to work it! Where did you get "Dawn patrol"? I want this on the PC real bad!!!!! MrBlob IP: Logged |

I am not familiar with this game. How old is it? Is it 3D? Is it anything like Flying Corps Gold? By the way, I am looking for FC as well. Does anyone know where it can be found these days?Ernst IP: Logged |

Ok guys, Dawn Patrol is a 4 year old game, has 640 480 res, decent sounds, no campaign, its laid out like a book of stories that you can fly. I got Dawn Patrol plus Wings of Glory at EBAY. I find not many people want games that old on ebay, and noone else even bid. Check it out.IP: Logged |

Aladar, sorry for the long response, Ive ben out of town. MrBlob said it right, the guns jam because thats how they were in real life! I too 4got how the camera worked and I dont have the manual... sorry Dawn Patrol was a fun game and still is! I like the way the Fokker E.III looks in that game. Dawn Patrol came before Flying Corps Gold but they were both made by the same people. Flying Corps Gold is like Dawn Patrol 2 really. IP: Logged |

That's not necessarily true. While the guns were more apt to jam, they could be maintained well for better performance. Rickenbacker tells about how he and his mechanic would go over his guns to get them in prime order before use. Seems to me I read about one of the German ace's doing the same thing.Don't get me wrong - a sim without gun-jams in wwi would be pretty silly, but to have them automatically jam seems equally silly, to me. Yes,guns shouldn't automatically jam. Gunners' were known to search for certain brands of ammo, where quality control still exsisted. Some brands of ammo were only good for the crates.IP: Logged |

Thanks, I now have Flying Corps Gold on order. I had it a few years back, but it didn't run properly on the computer I had at the time. The price was only $11.00. This should be interesting and I am looking forward to it. I remember FCG to have good flight models, but I don't remember too much about the damage models though. Those models are what I would like to revisit, but after looking at the website, I see that that is much more there that I have also missed out on and will need to catch-up with. This older game should be a good tool to help judge our own OpenPlane FM's by, in comparison. I would like to see how the FCG balance between aircraft is in relation to how ours have progressed. It will certainly help me in the beta testing. It is a sad commentary really to have to go and dig up past treasures instead of being able to go to the store shelves for a newer WW1 sim. All the new WW1 developement of the past few years has and is coming from within the dedicated communities such as ours, Red Baron and the 17 Hours team. I guess you can still count Dawn of Aces as having company support with some progression, but many there are dissatisfied as well at the pace of it. I suggest to everyone to fly planes in as many WW1 sims as you can so that you can have a frame of reference for working on your own FM and DM projects here. If you would like to read a good book about WWI flying and learn something about gun jams read the book "No Parachute" by Auther Gould Lee. This guy flew a sopwith pup in the first world war. He was constantly plagued by gun jams if I remember correctly.IP: Logged |

About guns jamming in WWI......certain pilots would spend a lot of time going through the ammunition that would go into their belts/drums and tossing out mishapen rounds which might cause the guns to jam. These pilots experienced less gun stoppages. However, how do you simulate this in a flight sim? I think most pilots back then would have prefered to spend their free time trying to sleep off the last mission, getting drunk or piling into the lorry with their mates and heading for the local brothel rather than sitting back in a shed at the aerodrome, going through round after round of ammunition and tossing out the ones that were questonable. How do you put this into a simulation? Flash IP: Logged |
