Bonjour !
I found that : the working rules in 1880 of a vinegar factory of Orléans , the city where I lived. Very instructive...
*****
1 - Devotion, neatness and punctuality make the force of a bargain.

2 - Our firm having considerably reduced working schedules, the office workers will not have to be more present than from 7 o'clock in the morning till 6 o'clock in the evening, and it, in daytime only.

3 - prayers will be said every morning in the big desk. The office workers will be there necessarily present.

4 - Clothing must be most sober possible. The office workers will not be allowed go to the whims of the clothes of lively colours; they will not wear stockings either, unless these are suitably repaired.

5 - In desks, one will not wear either coat, or overcoat. However, when time will be particularly rigorous, slings, scarf and skullcaps will be authorized.

6 - Your firm gives a heater to office workers. The Coal and the wood should be locked into the chestintended for that purpose. So that they can warm, it is recommended to every member of staff to bring every day four pounds of coal during the cold season.

7 - Any office worker will be authorized to leave the room without the permission pf Mr. Director . The appeals of the nature are however allowed and to give in to it, the members of staff will be able to use the garden below the second gateway. Naturally, this space should have in a perfect order.

8 - It is strictly forbidden to speak during office hours.

9 - The thirst of tobacco, wine or alcohol is a weakness human being and, as such, is forbidden all the members of staff.

10 - now office hours were energetically reduced, the grip of food is still authorized between 11:30 o'clock and noon, but on any account, work should not stop during this time.

11 - The office workers will supply their own pencils. A new pencil sharpener is available on inquiry at Mr. Director.

12 - A senior, appointed by Mr. Director, will be responsible for the cleaning and for the propeté of the big room, as well as the office directorial. The juniors and the young people will appear at Mr. Director 40 minutes before prayers and will stay after the hour of the lock to proceed to the cleaning. Brushes, brooms and soap will be supplied by the management.

13 - Increased recently, the new weekly salaries are henceforth the following ones:
- Younger children (until 11 years) > 0.50 F - Juniors (until 14 years) > 1.45 F
- Young people > 3.25 F
- Employees > 7.50 F
- Seniors (after 15 years of age in the factory) > 14.50 F

The owners recognize and accept the generosity of the new laws of the Work, but expect from the staff for a considerable increase of the productivity as compensation of these almost utopian conditions.

Meditate.
