Ever since I read a Siggi post on bombs away about his 3DMark2000 score, I've become somewhat obsessed with getting mine up to scratch. So, after countless driver changes, countless 3DMark2000 benchmarks (You know, the 3DMark test looks quite interesting the first 10-15 times) I finally found at least one of the problems,

What I did was download new AMD chipset drivers from http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/, the files are called :

"AGP Miniport Driver, Version 4.61"
"IDE Bus Master Driver Version 1.24"
"AMD IRQ Driver Version 1.00 (Windows 98/SE only)"

Once downloaded you just run the three exe's and then restart when told to a couple of times and its done.

So what was the result? Firstly the system is a Athlon 700 with 128M Ram and some sort of no-name GeForce DDR. The mother board only supports AGP2x, I don't know if that's important but I guess it could be.

Before the AMD driver update 3DMark2000 score was ~2000 using Hardware T&L and ~2300 using Software T&L (Strange but true). After the update it was ~4500 using hardware T&L and ~3500 using Software T&L. Quite a good jump IMO for a simple driver change.

The Software T&L increase was reflected in SDOE,with a change from average of 40ish FPS to 60ish FPS with around 12 a/c in the air.

I think there's still some performance left in it since I haven't even looked at enabling sideband on the AGP and such like but for the moment 60fps of good enough.

I'm sure heaps of you know all this, but for those who don't it really is worth it.
