Another one cracked wide open. It seems that somebody has figured out how to extract the game files in WWII Fighters so there may be a lot of customization stuff starting to take place over on that front for anyone who may still have it on their hd like myself

Wow, that's really cool news. For those WWIIF junkies out there they'll soon find Nirvana (not the group) (and all it's associated headaches/breakthroughs) with that game like we have with SDOE!Cheers to the successful crackers! (Ritz?) Dogma, got a good link where we could read about there success? I wish someone would do this with A-10 Cuba! (STILL a great game for the past 4 years) so we could change waypoints, edit missions, and even add new planes/objects). That game will stay on my HD and be played by me up until the day I die I imagine. Something about it just has me hooked body and soul. I read it on the forum over at WWII Fighters Online. They haven't made much progress other than someone has created a util to unpack the files and they have done a little experimenting. It should take off when people get ahold of that utility.Good to see your still around Pete! IP: Logged |

I just got WW2F and I really like it. The planes handle slower, but not as slow as CFS... I like the heavy feeling of the planes and the ground objects are really sweet. They actually operate more like the originals, but I guess thats what you get with Janes.. ;} I would like to see them tweak the planes up and get more planes in there.. it will really rock. Nothing will replace SDOE for straight Dogfight though.... this is really the best for that.... but Ground Attack is so sweet in WW2F. Can't wait to see what happens.... P.S. Wouldn't it be nice to get some of those Armored units in here? ;} Mirthian=FC=IP: Logged |

If it ever had the work done to it that SDOE has, it would be very cool. The graphics engine is great! Imagine WW1 with all them little troops and horse and carts to shoot up? Dawn patrol anyone?, with the sun glinting on wings? That would be superb.IP: Logged |

Imagine A-10 Cuba in Glide or D3D with some sort of dynamic campaign? OOh baby, would that be sweet or what? AQIP: Logged |

I LOVE WWII Fighters! It's the bomb of WWII sims in my opinion. The dogfighting is great and ground attacking is fun as hell, and the graphics... whoa! (those cockpits are the best Ive seen ever) Its a beautiful game in 800x600 in Glide with every setting turned all the way up! (my system can even handle it!) I only wish it had more planes, but the work EA did on the few planes it had was surperb! The only draw back is the damage model could use a bit of improvement (when you slam into the ground and such) But I hope someone starts doing some MODS.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... I only played the WW2 fighters demo. Whats the deal with the ground attack? Why is it so good? Maybe I should DL that demo again

The demo blows by comparison, really..... the units are usually laid out according to a plan, no willy nilly placement of armor and support. It makes sense, like when they have convoy's, AAA is spaced right as is the support units and armor.... really well thought out. Also there are lots of them. And units on your preflight map are where they are supposed to be, or at least close given fog of war.... Great experience, really. Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

Spanky, does the Demo come with the P-38 I cant remember? If you buy WWII fighters and fly the P-38, you will be AMAZED at the cockpit detail! (The p-38 in my fav. ground attack plane) This, combined with the ground units and their "planned" arrangement with awsome gun sounds and kewl explosions with awsome smoke make ground attacking "fun as hell"As for the fog o war, not bad on my system (I have a V3 3000 AGP) that and in winter, you couldnt see that far anyhow. WWII Fighters should have been the definitive WWII sim, but with it's abysmal online capabilities, it's sterile "Pilot Human" setup, and it's own limited battle area, it just didn't keep me coming back.BTW, I know they patched in the ability to add a pilot name, but I still get no feeling of being part of something with it. Maybe it's just me. It is however, a gorgeous game!

Spanky here... That looks great. I'm sure if we had more texture ram do work with then we could do that too. It all ways makes me wonder how other games can do stuff and SDOE can't

PR...I agree. The planes in WWII Fighters are beautiful- along with the cockpits (They are all very similar to those modeled by the talented people here for our planes-- and the sticks move!...and the engine start-ups and shut-downs in most of them are very similar to Meatwaters. Really- Janes did a splendid job-- although sometimes the planes are very sluggish in the controls. I wish there was more to the terrain than just around the Bulge-- and I would have loved to see them come out with more planes. If they do half as goos a job in FC:TOE as they did here, I will be very happy! ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

spanky. It all comes down to:1) Time 2) Money 3) People On any project you can generally increase any two of the three to accomplish a task, but only if they're available. Also, adding more people and money doesn't always work as well as adding people and time.

Spanky here.. K so are you saying that in the next sim you won't have to limit textures to the texture ram on the vid card? I was under the impression that right now we can't use more textures on the planes cause we will end up saturating the vid card texture ram. IP: Logged |

FS isn't limited to the amount of memory on the video card. It caches the textures on disk and loads up as many as it can up to a limit set in the INI TextureCacheSize entry (see http://www.fightersquadron.com/FS_INI_Readme.html )IP: Logged |
