Hi guys, I've been trying to compile a list of current and upcoming WWII sims, because payday is coming up soon and I plan on making EB very happy. Here's what I've got so far. Please reply to add sims the list, and please indicate the genre when you do, and if possible a URL or producer name so more info can be located. Thanks! My personal collection: FS SDOE (Air - all theatres) Panzer Commander (Armour - europe) Fighting Steel (Naval - atl/pac) Hidden and Dangerous (SpecOps/SAS - europe) Steel Panthers 1,2,3 (Board Game Style - all theatres) Ones I'm waiting for: Silent Hunter II (UBoat) Hidden and Dangerous 2 (SpecOps/SAS) TeamFortress 2 (?? Is this even WWII?) Btw, I scoped out EB at Southcentre (those in my city would know where this is) the other day and they still had a boxed copy of FS on the shelves, next to EAW, Janes, Nations, CFS and a few others. Thanks! Werner ------------------ It's coming... The NEW bcatp! Stay tuned for details! IP: Logged |

Hey Werner Molders, Have you heard anything on SHII. I tried to contact SSI but I got a reply from Mattel?? telling me nothing. I have heard that the game is on hold and other people say it's no more. (hard to believe)

EB???? If, you're into flying over the net, have a look at Fighter Ace 2. The aeroplanes look pretty shonky, but there is a fair range (I have got the demo and its got about 20 planes)Sierra's Desert Fighters looked good Untill they cancelled it! Bugger It might be a bit out of the way, but, All of you who build model kits should know of AIRFIX model kits. Some company has made a game based around Airfix's WWII aeroplane kits. Story goes, little boy make models, which then come to life (Toy story 3 anyone!). The planes (controlled by players) race around house, destroying anything which gets in their way. Called Airfix Dogfighters, i believe. The only other game i can think of, and it too is a fair way off, is that new game in which you are flying around in in 1945 in the USA. Catch is, is that you are in a parallel universe! Visuals look pretty cool but i haven't heard much else. The designs of some of the planes look Very sweet though! ------------------ Remeber to keep the blue up the top, and the green down below! IP: Logged |

JG2"FireCat!" P.S. Team Fortress is a Multiplayer MOD of the game Half-Life. It is Military, but the setting is current era, not WW2.

Crimson Skies - an alternate and simplified between WWI&WWII flight 'sim' CFS II Empire/Rowan has mentioned doing a PAW after a few other projects were wrapped up (2002?)IL-2 I thought I heard 'before Xmas' Jane's Attack something something (FCTOE) - it was eaten by the 'Jane's' beastee, who knows when it will see daylight?Old: LC - sucky game AOE, AOTP, AOTD, ect.. SWOL, BOB, ect.. 1942 I also liked Air Power, an old zeppelin aircraft carrier game from Rowan that people didn't like due to it's touchy controls. Other than that, a nice strategy game. I am wanting to add a Panzer and a Sherman to TreadMarks, I just gotta figure out what program can output textured .lwo files. BTW -TFC started out as a Quake I mod, but got converted by Valve to Half-Life. Reportedly there is an effort underway to do an Unreal mod of if.

Hey all,"Hidden And Dangerous II"? Do you mean H & D - Devil's Bridge/Fight For Freedom, or is another completely new version of H & D coming out? I know H & D DB/FFF is already out (I have it) so there must be another H & D comin' out yes? That'll be great. Thanks. ------------------ Bombs may explode...handle with care...visit FS Online

That's right Harmon, HD2. I neglected to list DB/FFF on my list, but DB/FFF and HD2 are separate entities. I can't wait either! My local EB told me they anticipate having it on the shelves in the fall, which means it'll be released sometime in the next five years. Werner ------------------ It's coming... The NEW bcatp! I have Panzer Elite (full game) and the Panzer Commander Demo. I have to say between the two I prefer the awesome physics of Panzer Commander. Seeing the treads move and wheels roll and shock absorbing going on all at once is awesome!Panzer Elite just doesn't cut it for me (although many love it). IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah i tried that demo pete. I do like the physics but really hate the rest of the game. Graphics and such just don't do it for me. Plus in Elite its just more realistic. Going through and shelling houses. Infantry. Water damages your tank. rolling hills and terrain. The only part I hate is the high system requirments. IP: Logged |

A downer for some of you is that Mattel made no mention of Silent Hunter II at E3, just Destroyer Commander.IP: Logged |

I'm seeing an ugly trend here. These big companies like Mattel and Hasbro take over the small sim developers and everything turns to crap. I wish we could go back to the old times. I know it's all about money and I suppose if a huge corporation was waving a stack of cash in my face it'd be hard to resist, but the results are turning out bad for us gamers.Poor products due to the BIG guys, not the developers, calling all the shots. It's a SERIOUS bummer. (see my post in the general forum about B-17II at E3, and also that mention about Silent Hunter II makes me think it could end up getting screwed over as well) [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 05-14-2000).] IP: Logged |

I tend to agree. IMO the advent of big companies in the gaming industry is going to spell the end of "serious" sims of all types IMO--at least on the scale we have now.I reckon all the best sims are produced by small teams, more or less on a shoestring, with only modest sales required to make a modest financial success. As soon as the suits get involved, the production costs skyrocket, you get a SMALL improvement in the product itself, and you need HUGE sales to justify the time and resources expended on the project. Not good for "hard core" simulations, which are hard to do well, and haven't got the sales potential of simple "shoot em ups." Actually, maybe it will turn out to be GOOD when all the big companies get out of the sim business. There will always be up-and-coming programming talent anxious to strut their stuff. Some of the best sims (Warbirds, Aces High, even Wing Commander) were the product of small teams with high standards, a little patience, and a love of what they were creating. Time to go "back to our roots" maybe?

Spanky here.. I think at the root of it is one word PROFIT. In a small company with people that are happy with there jobs and position will work to put out a quality product that keeps them employed and keeps the business in business. As long as they get to keep working its all good. In a large company there is stock prices, dividends and other stuff. They not only want to make sure everyone working makes a decent living and that the cost of running the business is taken care of. The suits want to be WAY overpaid and have the business increasing in value AND keep the stock owners happy. I don't have a problem with either method. But it seems that good sims mostly come from the first crowd. Heck most ANY quality product comes from smaller places. I personally would be fine if I ran a business as long as everyone got paid and the bills got paid. I can live without pursuit of the almighty profit margin. Some profit is needed in every business for reinvestment in tools, building matanince and such and hopefully a good nest egg for the owner. BUT profit just to keep the stock holders and company president happy ends up with games like SDOE was when it came out. At least thats the way I see it.
