We do this topic from time to time, and I thought with the influx of new faces from the Contesdt, now might be a good time to do it again.Just what do you play when your not flying in the SDOE skies? I have recently been bitten by the Helo bug. I tried KA-52 Team Alligator, and Gunship! I stink at both, but whats new. What about you boys? Got a new game that is keeping you at the computer into the wee hours? Tell us! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Yeah i'm flying a little gunship, Mad Dog has to review test drive lemans so I'll be playing some of that. I don't really play alot of computer games except SDOE. Theres just nothing out there to play. I do have the earth 2150 demo but I have only fired it up once. Its looking really cool. I mostly play on the playstation. Playing Syphon filter 2 and need for speed porshce, Mads playings some MTV music generator and Galarians. My girlfreind plays Toy story 2 on the station and solitare on the computer. IP: Logged |

I've been playing Homeworld on an off for the last few days and I am disappointed. Some fundamental hotkeys aren't readily identifiable to me. Hotkeys like a way to toggle through the ships, one by one, a key to zip to the mothership right away, and keys to zip to the support ships right away. A go to mothership command would be nice (especially since Dock to a resource collector simply means unload your cargo at the mothership and head back out - not nice when there are nasties cruising about). Some of the prevelant bugs (features?) are in the container defense mission. I couldn't capture more than one frigate - the second one I capture just disappeared. It wasn't the only mission like that, the one before it, I could only get 1 ion cannon ship, the other one I latched onto just sat there, and I couldn't get the enemy mothership. I think the limit on salvage ships per capture is 2, right? The visuals are nice, but some game play features keep coming up short. The battles are less interactive thant I like. You basically select a group of ships, assign them a target and watch. I prefer the ability to micromanage, and the current interface doesn't affort it. ctrl drag, shift drag, alt drag, drag, and press some magic key all gets a bit confusing as to what does what. It just doesn't feel too intuitive. Other games include SCGT (the first racing sim that I played more than a week), Darkstone (the occasional urge), AOE II (I can't go back to games without formations), and a bunch of other games, usually once every two months. BigglesKA-52 is a pretty neat little Help sim, but sadly for me it had to go back to the store. It crashed to the desktop far to often. I think they have a few bugs to work out. Once they have it patched, I'm almost certain to revisit it. I just got Comanche vs Hokum the other day. Now this is really a sweet game! I am having trouble in that it doesn't like my Ge Force card. I can't set resolutions higher than 640x480 at the moment. However, I'm sure that will be resolved. The game is gorgeous, and it really make me want to learn to be a rotor head. I tried the Soldier of Fortune demo. For a mindless shootum up, it looked pretty darn cool! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

I'm playing more in semi relistic mode. In resistant damage mode. Even not as a sim its the shit for flying around taking out those moving ground units in the city. IP: Logged |

Yo Jaguar, My advice to your MS FS problems is, Just download a new helicopter from somewhere! I Bloody hat the crap out of the 206, cause it really is a bitch to fly! I learned to fly (In the game that is) in a real life trainer, The Hughes/Schwizer 200. I got it from www.flightsim.com from their download section. It is a lot easier to fly and it looks really cool!BTW, Does anyone here have access to a real Hughes/Schwizer 200? Apart from being a flight-sim fanatic, i am also an avid Model kit builder (is anyone else?) and am contemplating wether or not to star a kit of it! I would possibly like to get pics of around the engine and all! Private Roger Apache vers Havoc was pretty cool but Comanche vs Hokum sounds brilliant. Two of the coolest hellicopters around ready to blow the crap out of one and another!

I've got Silent Hunter sitting around, SSI keeps bundling it with everything. I might install it if I ever feel like spending hours zig zagging for fat merchantmen. A game to avoid if you like sleep is the Sims. Way too addicting. One reveiw somewhere said that the game makes it too easy to get homosexual relationships going, so I tried, and by golly, those two chicks smacked lips in about 2 hours. Way weird. I wonder if there is a Mr. Rogers skin out there.....I also play the OS game. If you pick up a copy of 'Maximum Linux' this month you can score Mandrake and Storm Linux on the back cover. I played the Caldera game, rpm'ed it, and it is now in a 'hosed' state. My ultimite goal is to see if UT is faster under Linux than Windows 98.... this could be cool..... IP: Logged |

Be warned, if you don't know unix, I wouldn't do it. I work with unix everyday and in my personal view Linux is not the killer of MS. It will never be. Everything has its place but unix as the op for a pc, I'm sorry but its NOT a user friendly system. Its great if you a running COBOL under UNIX. If you do want linux, I'll send it to you free if you pay shipping. Check out Jades:"if Linux Was An Automobile..." Unix isn't as user friendly as Windows, but 1) you can get to the nitty gritty of everything - mod the kernal, mod the desktop, etc.. 2) you know exactly what processes are running as opposed to the MS black box approach 3) you get what you pay for 4) you can put 'Linux' in a press release and your stocks will go up 10,000% 5) you usually can find decent and timely help without having to upgrade everything, and chances are if you do have to upgrade, it is free, it will run your old stuff, and it will still have just the features you wantI am looking to do some OpenGL programming, and have found BC++ 5.5 is a FREE 7.8MB download. There supposedly some good XWindows IDE's out there. I'm fundamentally cheap . IP: Logged |

You never know when you might need to know what your doing with an os. So it would be cool to at least know the fundementals of linux. I know its not he killer of MS somthing more user freindly will have to come around for that to happen. Somthing with a really good UI and compatiblity with windows and Direct X. I can dream right?

Mandrake 7.0 installed rather well on my system this weekend. It was the first linux that I installed that supported everything I have on my system, less USB and WinModem. I can't wait until the next kernal comes out with USB support. On another note, I have to send my condolences to the Playstation people. Is Final Fantasy VII the best you have for RPGs? I was goofing off with it under bleem! (a smooth ride with an occasional choppy sound and some graphic glitches, very playable) and can't help but wonder if the fight sequences could get any lamer. I bought it because I am interested in doing an unbounded adventure game with PR so I need to see what is out there. I should have bought RR 4 or GT for the same price. I was making an effort to procure an international version of the PS2, but since the US version is boasting a modem and hard drive, I might wait up a bit for it. The advantages of the international version might outweigh the benefits of a hard drive since my wife can watch Japanese DVD movies and I can watch my English movies. No region coding, and no hacks required. BTW, region coding is an effort by the motion picture industry to punish you before you commit a crime, ie mass duping DVDs and exporting them to the next continent. I beleive that copyrights are done on a country by country basis, as there is no global laws, yet. IP: Logged |

Actually the only games I play on the PC are SDOE and EAW, and since today Aces High. I buy something else now or then, but not much. Tiberian Sun and Driver are the last 2 games I bought for the PC after SDOE.I usually play with my N64. I got 18 games so far, some utter brilliant (eg GOLDENEYE, Zelda TOoT, Mario 64) and some I could have been better of with without them (Nagano Winter Olympics and Pokémon Stadium (yep, you have my permission to make fun of me for buying this)). I recently bought Wrestlemania 2000. I have only played it twice on my own, since that's nothing compared to the fun you get with 2 or 3 friends coming over. Just kicking and punching the hell out of eachother, great fun. Also Super Smash Brothers is great fun. Same as Wrestlemania, killing eachother is just the best gameplay you can wish for. Goldeneye had been a no.1 till recently, but after having played it for 100's of hours we just play it for half an hour nowadays and then take something else. The game I've really been waiting for now is "Perfect Dark", Rare's Goldeneye follow up. It will be out here in June and in May in the US, so whatever you do: BUY THIS GAME!!! I would even be prepared to buy a N64, 3 controllers and 4 rumble packs again just for this game alone! ------------------ Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a Flying Poodle ! IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Winmodem? WTF? You ever play online games man? Wacky. Bout the PS2 check out my post on it and look at the best screen shot you have ever seen in your life. Whats an international version man? I think your confused. They released the jap version iwth a mistake in the DVD software that let you watch region 1 DVDs. Thats cool. BUT you still wouldn't be able to play north american games. Yes the whole DVD region coding is bullshit. Its the same with the games you have to put in a mod chip to play any imports. There will be the same thing for watching DVD movies i'm sure. Good ol mod chip. I love it

You missed some news, Sony released a small number of PS2's to a few people without region coding. The work around is a hack. The PS2 looks nice, but I am planning on seeing what GT1 or 2 looks like on it. When I do, I'll post some screens.Windmodem = CPU does all the decoding, ie eats framerate for chow due to it's lack of any real hardware processing. There is a freeware N64 emulator out there. Spanky here.. Winmodem=Crap thats why i was asking why are you using it? Actually man. All the PS2s had the bad software that let them watch North american DVDs Yes a mod chip would be a hack. But whats so bad about it? My mod chip works perfect and its a hack. You don't have to do anything extra to play the game. Just slap it in and as far as the sony is concerned its a North American game. You want to see the PSX 1 gt1 and 2 on the PS2? they are on the net already. Look at the pic I posted for what the PS2 can really do. Yeah I didn't like the FF games either on the sony. But i'm not a RPG kinda guy.

Winmodems are cheap. I also found out that not all ISA modems are not winmodems. Hopefully the next modem I get will be DSL. I'd rather spend the $100 on 128MB of RAM as opposed to a non-winmodem. I rarely do the online games, so I am not hurt that much. More CPU cycles are eaten up when you scroll the window than from a winmodem.I just went to the PS website and FF VII is listed as the top PS game. Do PS weenies enjoy these sad excuses for RPGs? GT1 was at #2, I think. 3 CDs of junk=FF VII. bleem! was $9.99 after a $20 rebate from CompUSA (CompMexico?). One of the big Mexican drug cartels bought them out. Hopefully, next month I'll have negotiated a copy of PowerRender and move ahead with OpenWorld. I checked out the 'Land1' demo from egerter.com and was rather impressed. I plan on working on a limited FS and an RPG with terrain that I hope to reqire 1 month to walk across, less by horse.

SDOE is the god of WWII sims options and upgradeability wise. Combatflight Sim is the god of WWII sims upgradeability wise. I think I own every major WWII sim that has come out since 1991. Except Nations and a few addons for Combatflight Sim. I also dont have 1942: Pacific Air War and Chuck Yegers one (I forget what it was called) and the second Air Warrior.
