Unfortunately not all the d/l's available for FS are unzipped the same way, but fortunately they usually come with a readme file with unzip instructions. I aways unzip to a bogus folder, read the readme and then unzip again per the instructions.

Do a little searching at the download sites. I believe the readme for 5.3 or 5.3A was wrong at first and I don't know if it has been corrected.

This is a good place to go for the latest:

PS Posts like this will get better response on the Help board. This is definitely not Off Topic.

I agree, this is definitely not "off topic", but I'm glad you asked for help whereever you could.

I don't know how far along you are, so forgive me if I start from the beginning.

Step one. Be sure you have downloaded and installed a zip program (winzip or PKzip). If not, go get one.

Step two.
Read the read me

Step three
extract the files to the location stated in the read me.

When you launch the zip program, it should give you a window showing what files are in the zip. Read the read me to see if they give you details on how to install their download. They will usually tell you which folder to extract to, or to extract all in the main fighter squadron folder with the names extentios option selected.

Most (not all) of he zipped downloads used by the comminity are already broken into their folders in the zip itself. To verify if the folder names are used, expand the window to full screen and see if the icons for each file have a directory structure attached to them (ie fightersquadron/media or something similar.) If so, and if the ReadMe directs you to do so, then ther is a check box in the bottom corner of the window of the zip program that tells you you can use that directory structure. Make sure its clicked if the Readme tells you to use folder names. Otherwise, it should not be clicked, and you need to install to the folder designated by the readme.

Did that make any sense? If not, open the zip and it will make more sense.
