Okay, I know this is the wrong forum, but here goes: Instead of using ICQ, why don't you get MSN Messenger Service. You'll have to have a Hotmail address to use it. It's similiar to ICQ in that you see when other people are online, but it's much simpler. It may be handy to use to check when other people are online, so that we can set up games, and so on.IP: Logged |

there again, why not use a good program like AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) but I've said this maney times and everyone syicks to that crappy ICQ thing oh, just thought I should say I've used ICQ, MIRC, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger, and quiet a few others.. but they all suck once you've used AIM... IMHO, which is all that counts with me [This message has been edited by Nat (edited 03-30-2000).] IP: Logged |

Spanky here... I would consider it BUT, isn't icq the most popular? We could never get all the people who are on the active list to switch. What is so much better with the alternatives? Do they have active lists or does everyone have to sign all the other people up to their own lists? I don't see much wrong with icq except the whole active list problem of people not being able to sign on sometimes. I am having much better luck with that latly. Sometimes the file transfer function is stupid too. I'm not saying its the best but it isn't that bad and its hard to get people to switch a product like that. I personally refuse to run 2 different ones. And i'm not about to try and convince my family and freinds to switch. It was a bitch to get people to switch to icq99b so they could join the active list, and they already had icq. IP: Logged |

Spanky--The Dauntless team tried to meet last Friday (was it that or the one before?)- in ICQ chat and there were 6 people there- but only 4 or 5 showed up in my window...so ICQ can be buggy... ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

This is sort of a chicken and egg thing. The best one is the one that the people you want to communicate with are using. My mom, grandmother, and a few other unsophisticated users are on AOL, so I have AIM for them. Most of my geek friends have ICQ, so I have that, too. AIM is simpler. ICQ has more features. Both work most of the time. My impression is that those two cover probably 99+% of the people who are willing to invest the time to use any online notification system. I'm not particularly interested in switching to a new system just for the sake of switching. And I'm especially not interested in giving Mickeysoft another foothold to drive others out. Just my miniscule opinion. IP: Logged |

Yahoo Chat. Is that still around. Right now, I have MSN. So MSN IM should be on ye old HD, right? It is probably next to RegClean . There are a few web sites with chat rooms, although quite restrictive. If it came down to it, one of the cable guys who leaves there sytems up 24 hours a day can set up a battlecom server. Up to 64 people can chat realtime.IP: Logged |
