I just post about the DreamCast and then I stumble onto this stuff about the PSX 2, which also looks incredible (and more powerful) than the Dreamcast. If you are into racing cars, look at all these pics and prepare to say WOW! http://ps2.ign.com/previews/13595.html [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 02-16-2000).] IP: Logged |

Yup, its Sony for me - don't know about the relative merits of the consoles themselves, but their force feedback controller is untouchable by anything else ever made - esp if you like Gran TurisimoIP: Logged |

Full analog sounds great! Only bummer I see comes from a trip just now to www.ps2web.com where I see that GT isn't one of the release games - they all seem to be kung-fu or kiddie twitch stuff. Wonder if the Dex and the Shark will work with them? whatever - online multi with a PS is going to be a trip IP: Logged |

Yes, the PS2 looks awesome, but Sega still has 2 aces up it's sleaves. 1. The PS2 will be at least $300 when it gets here in a year or so (ign) 2. The Dreamcast has a modem in every unit. If Sega starts releasing multi-player games it could be great. Interestingly, the 56K modem in the Dreamcast could offer better in-game performace than a similar PC game. On the PC you need to keep all game logic on the server to prevent hackers from cheating. This results in a lot of extra data being transmitted. On a Dreamcast game the console could keep track of a lot more since it wouldn't be possible to hack the game. I hope Sega gets the online games out soon.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... I like sonys answer to Online play more. Wait until technology is ready and more people have high bandwidth connections. 56k is barly cutting it for online play as it is. A cable modem or DSL will be much better And don't be so sure about people hacking games on a console

Well, it's already been done I just read an article about a guy who (using a Linux box) setup an ISP (in his house) between his PC and the Dreamcast. His DC is now connected to the 'Net via a cable modem. Cool! (and they said it couldn't be done)IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah but what is the connection speed bettween his DC and his ISP box? Is it still 56k? or did he hard wire it? I hope he hardwired it. IP: Logged |

Even with a trunk connection, online multi isn't nearly as good as a fast-box LAN anyway - not only is lag negligble, people are soooo much nicer when they are in physical reach of each other. There are just too many people whose only chance at bravery in anything comes because the net makes them anonymous.IP: Logged |
