Do any of you own/fly Aero Wings or the other one, AirForce Delta? My wife picked me up a Dreamcast today (Tax return money) and the games Hydro Thunder (boat racing... I LOVE the arcade version of this), and Soul Calibur (a very highly rated fighting game). My question is, should I return these for those two flying ones? The Aero Wings one is like formation flying (looks neat), and the other one is about 30 airplanes in 20 missions. Help! I'd love to hear from SDOE fans, because we all know how fun this game is, and I'd love to hear comparisons with the two Sega titles. Thanks! IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Mad dog tried all those games and said you shouldn't take them back for the flying games. He thought the graphics on aero wings were really bad. Air force delta is a cut and copy paste of ace combat for the PSX which wasn't too bad (ace combat) in my mind but he thinks the 2 games you have are better. IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. WHy don't you just rent the 2 flying games before you make any choices? I would NEVER buy a game without renting it first.

Thanks Spanky. Yeah, I went ahead and kept what I have and I'm very happy with them. Even the demo disk included with the game is loaded with good stuff. It's a nice break from the ol' PC. IP: Logged |

Well I don't have a Dreamcast, but I have played some Soul Caliber and I think it's a pretty great game. I love to use the old guy, Edgemaster, who has a different weapon every round. That adds some variety and makes it so you have to change fighting styles. I've played it mostly on the arcade. What I did play a lot of on the Dreamcast is a title called Tokyo Extreme Racer which was especially fun since we had it hooked up to a fancy wall projector and played it in the middle of the night, into the early morning. Basically you just race around a city track and challenge other racers- they get harder and you earn more cash when you win. Then you can buy new cars with the cash or upgrade one of your existing cars until it is all maxed out. Have fun Pete, but don't forget about SDOE -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Oh not to worry. Other games hold my attention for maybe a week at most, but I ALWAYS go back to SDOE (it's been like this for about 1 1/2 years now (since I was a tester for it, I've had it since Nov '98).That says so much for SDOE I think, to be hooked on it for so long I have to mention Sonic's Adventure on the Dreamcast (DC for short, from now on). I've always thought Sonic wasn't too cool at all. Well, tonight after I wore in the two new games I went through everything on the demo CD (loaded with nice stuff). I saved Sonic for last, not because it was best but because it was what I LEAST wanted to see/play. Here is a bit of info I took from one reviewer out there in cyberspace and this really fits this game well... Visuals: The visuals in Sonic will blow you away. Not just because they’re beautiful, don’t get me wrong, they are. Yet it’s something else entirely that makes them stand out. It’s the speed that makes them so great. The game has some many unbelievable visuals on the screen at the same time and yet you’re still able to jettison through the air at the speed of light. Again, it’s something that has to be experienced first hand to enjoy. At one point in the game you actually go inside of a tornado. And let me tell you…when the sky darkens and you’re sucked inside the beast you’ll have to stop for a second just to marvel at it. It’s just wonderful and it’s a small part of what makes the Dreamcast such a great system. Me again. I agree, the beauty I saw was so amazing, but even more so was the lightning speed of the graphics! He literally BLASTS through certain parts of the demo level and the amazing DC can keep up with it all! It's unlike anything I've EVER seen! This is truly a KILLER console! I'm ready to sell my ol' Playstation any day now. It can't touch the Sega Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast isn't really catching on here in Europe, I don't see it in many stores and only know one in my town where they sell it. But I think it's still too expensive for most toy shops and things like that. I've seen some pics of the Dreamcast's games, they look good. The Dreamcast also has a modem right? Have you played any games online yet? I got a N64, but I usually play it when friends come over. The N64, just like the Dreamcast, has 4 game ports (for free) and I got 4 controllers with rumble packs too. It's some investment, but if you get a good game and a bunch of friends over at the house you'll have the best time ever. I always play Goldeneye or Mario Kart, that are games that last. Some games, like Sonic, Mario or Zelda, you play them till you finish them or get sick of them, but these you play forever. However, after playing hundreds of hours Goldeneye, it's not so exciting anymore as it used to be. But still fun for a few games. I've never been fond of Sega. I've always seen it as the "competition" because I have always been playing Nintendo since I was 6 years old, but nowadays the "big bad wolf" is named Sony. ------------------ Is it a bird? Poodle,Me too. It's always been Nintendo, although we did try a 3DO when they first came out in 93/94. We currently have a Super NES, an N64, a Playstation, and now the Sega Dreamcast. Our N64 gets played DAILY and has for the past 2 or so years. My wife and son play it mostly. Super Mario World, Mario Cart, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong (the new one), GoldenEye, WaveRace (LOVE that one), and some others. So far though with the Sega it looks great and everything, but I'm not used to that little Sonic guy yet. I really like Mario and even Crash Bandicott better. Sonic is just wierd and even ugly IMHO. It came with a Sonic Demo but I can't see buying it. Maybe renting it though. Overall though the load times are VERY low, the FPS are consistently 60fps or more (according to all the sources I've read), and my eyes do have me thinking DAMN THIS IS SMOOTH! No slowdown in any game or demo I've seen yet! Plust the clarity/sharpness of the graphics is gorgeous. It really makes me just want to heave my Playstation off a 10 story building. The N64 though, no, we still like it too much IP: Logged |

Well Spanky, it's my wife and kid that are into the N64. The PSX just doesn't have the nice sharp graphics and speed that I really crave. I think it's time (at least for me) has came and went.IP: Logged |

I've got a 3DO, Atari Jaguar with CD and a N64. I was thinking about the Dreamcast but I haven't seen any must have games for it yet, yes there are some great looking games but none of them really grab me. I might give it a go when the range of titles is a bit more diverse. I kind of bought all my consoles when they were on the way out and picked them up cheap. Haven't had the N64 long, talking of flying games are Pilot Wings 64 and Aerofighters Assault worth getting?Hippie. IP: Logged |

Hippie,I haven't tried Aero Fighters yet but Pilot Wings 64 is OK, I wouldn't say I love it but it's alright. I don't think it'll grab you the way you hope it would though. It's pretty weak. Graphics speed gets very (I mean VERY) slow at times. It was a let down to me, although I play it with my son, so at least he can enjoy it still. Pete, Hydro Thunder is a winner. I found the web page of the guy who designed the original arcade version, it is a fun insider look at arcade game design: http://members.home.net/sranck/projects/hydro/hydro.htm Have you raced Venice Canals yet?-Lothar IP: Logged |

Yeah, the little cheater in me had to get the cheat codes.Place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on one of the first race areas and when you enter your name, enter ?PB and you get all boats and all courses (including all bonus stuff as well). I really think the New York City underwater one is awesome! It's truly a very very cool game. I just rented Crazy Taxi today and also SegaRally2. Crazy Taxi is so cool! I just wish it had a replay feature, since I love watching from different camera angles. Btw, thanks for that link. I just sent Hydro's creator a huge email [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 02-18-2000).] IP: Logged |

I got Lylat Wars too. Usually you get a rumble pack free with the game, so it's definitely worth it's money. The 1 player game will finish sooner or later, but the multiplay is quite nice, letting you shoot eachother flying over some weird planet's countryside. Real fun I assure you. Next to Goldeneye it's the game I most play, or F-zero's nice too. Aero Fighter Assault got a 53/100 in the "N64 magazine" so I wouldn't go for that one. Pilotwings got 89/100 a while back, and still is a 5-star game. I'm still looking for that title, it tends to be sold out often. Lylat War got a 91/100.------------------ Is it a bird? Is it a plane? I bought a Dreamcast on European release, but I'm selling it now.I have Soul Caliber, House of the Dead 2 and Powerstone. I dont know, these games are good at what they do but they only seem to last a few days and then interest wanes. I suppose its like bringing £40 into a video arcade [$?] and blowing it. All over in a few hours...IP: Logged | |
