With the information from Bryan, I was able to track down what caused the CTD with the new beta patch. It turned out to be the left elevator. (This should be corrected now - I just need you guys to test it)The download is just 103K and only contains the P51d.sm file. Unzip to a temp. folder and move or copy the new file into your Fighter Squadron/Media/Aircraft/P51d folder. Please let me or Spin know if you want this in the next plane pack. Yes, that was one of the main goals of beta 5.1 They do take off, but still use a lot of runway. Until Pang does a complete FM workover there is a balance. I can improve the AI takeoff, but it makes the plane less stable in turns (spins easily). Some people may like this even better, that is why I am asking for feedback. I just started a new topic in the Tech Section for feedback on this beta, but feel free to ask questions here. [This message has been edited by Raider (edited 03-18-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hi Raider,It is really a tough choice here but in the end my vote would be for the stable flight(ie less spinny) instead of the ability for the ai to takeoff. Maybe if everyone else wants the ai take off more, then maybe you could make the 51 just a litte less touchy and therefore only take a little more runway to takeoff? ------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

Raider, I say make it as accurate as possible whilst still letting AI fly the a/c.My 1 main complaint is that most of the a/c in SDOE r far too stable and most r almost spin-proof.I was working on helping Zur redo the 109 FMs but I lost touch with him after he changed email addresses.Ive contacted him on his new one several times but he must be busy.I've done a lot of testing on SDOE's current 109s as well as the 190 which r another problem. There r probs with performance, but even more with handling. All the 109s, 4 example, roll far too quickly. The 109 was a slug in the roll at high speeds. The SDOE 109s roll effortlessly. Speaking of which only TS's A-4 matches real world performance. The others r pretty way off - especially the D-9.Even TS's A-4 is nearly spin-proof, but it never used to be.Poor TS got sick of ppl complaining that the 190A-4 entered spins too easily so he made it almost spin-proof. The problem is one of playability vs accuracy.I say may it as accurate as possible. However others prefer, 2 use the AW idiom, "relaxed realism".I think the latter view is just as valid as mine, but I personally prefer 2 fly virtual a/c whose characteristics r as close 2 real-life as possible. If that means a 190 which can spin viciously if not flown right, then so be it.It's just a matter of preference - mine isnt any more valid than anyone else's.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I totally agree. I hope the FM for this plane (all planes) is as accurate as possible. Pang is currnetly working on the FM as we speak. Also, Snickers project is to give the planes as true flight characteristics as possible. I have seen some of the things they are working on and I am totally amazed, I think you will be too.
