Thats right folks! Im done with her! Shes great to fly and I hope this plane is now used MUCH more on-line. Spin, PLEASE add this to the Plane Pack Patch. (PPP for short) This is the last time I will update this plane... so SWOTL, eat your heart out! Get it at simfiles: http://www.simfiles.com Heres the readme: **ArgonVs Go-229 Update 2** -To Install: Extract to the Media directory with the 'Use folder names' option enabled. The included skin is the green cammo. Things improved/fixed/added: -FM VASTLY improved. Right wing no longer flips end over end on turns, dives or banks. Stability as well as ease of flight improved. Shaking on high speeds also limited. You can now travel 650 mph+ without shaking. Much more fun to fly! Tho landings are challanging as the Go-229 has tricycle landing gear. To land, fly in at about 160 mph with the first flap setting. You may also want to use full flaps if you wish to approach slower. The rudder is also much less effective but I kept it in to assist on takeoffs and landings. AI can now fly the Go-229 well. Put 800 lbs of fuel in the mission editor if you choose to make more missions. -Ground handeling improved aswell. Eliminated that hard jerk to the left on start of takeoff. It wants to go to the left a little as you increase speed on the ground, but that can easily be countered with use of the rudder. You can now brake without your aircraft doing 360s on the ground or going out of control. But please wait untill you are 110 mph at most to use the brakes. -Model improved: A new one piece shadow has ben added. Also swaped the small front wheel for a larger one and DOFed the gear properly. The engines are now smoothed out aswell. Rear gear holes have ben added and rear hydrolic pistons have ben added. I also touched up the obBodyPts, inertia boxes and a few other DOFs. You can now bend your wings off in a stress dive and the gear can now also be broken off. The quick views have also ben fixed. There is the gunsight and the mainpanel quick view. I added in 4 30mm cannons as that was its historic gun count. The pilots parachute also works now. No more plumeting to your death! Low detail LODs have ben added to the engines to improve frame rates and the left gear door was fixed so you can now see it from all angles. -Thanks: MUCH thanks to Razer for the shadow, engine smoothing, low detail LODs for the engines and for fixing the left gear door. Much thanks to Pete, Goth, Razer and Hawk for testing. Thanks to Pete for origonally doing the Go-229 model and thanks to Roadtoad and Panzer for getting it into SDOE for us SWOTL lovers to fly! I'll download this as soon as I get home! One big question... HOW DID YOU FIX THE HIT PROBLEM! I think I have had something similar happen when I worked on seperating the B17 nose and tail. I couldn't figure it out. What was the fix! IP: Logged |

Hey ArgonV. This thing is awesome! Thanks for doing such a great job refining it. Question: Why is it that your screenshots of the Go229 are brighter than the aircraft that show up in my game which are darker in color? Hummm..... JPIP: Logged |

Thanks guys! wakeup, there is still a hit problem with bullets with the wings and a small part of the fuse. I added as many obBodyPts as I could to the cockpit, fuse and engines. Also added some more to the wings but bullets still pass thru! Someone said in the Tech section that Laika found a fix to this... Ill search for that later on. JG300s_Blitzer, the screen shots are brighter because I brightened them up so they wouldnt be too dark when I posted them... I can brighten up the skin of the Go-229 the same way if you so desire. Nah, CTD. Just installed PP6, and then the GO229 patch. Now I'm rewarded with a momentaneous glimpse of the GO229 interior and then - bam. CTD. Any airfoils you forgot to mention? Any ideas?IP: Logged |

Hmm... PP6 has the Go-229 inclued doesnt it? Thats VERY wierd. The airfoils should already be in there. I'll look into this.WT, thanks! I hope Razer sees this. [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 12-20-2000).] IP: Logged |

Weird thing is that the GO229 worked just fine after installing PP6. But after installing your patch, well... :-DIP: Logged |

Nope, same problem. I see the pit flash by and then I'm at my desktop again. Exactly the way it feels when there's an airfoil missing somewhere... Hm... Any other ideas? :-DIP: Logged |

Ah crap... Well I didnt add any new airfoils in and the airfoils the Go-229 uses are already in PP6. The only thing I can think of right now, is its the shadow. Razer said something about the shadow possibly causing CTDs and flickering in D3D. I will see if he can fix this.IP: Logged |

Well... then I basicly give up after this. Did you extract it in the Media directory with 'Use folder names' option enabled? And did you replace all the files if/when it asked? Also check your startup.ppf file for this: "aircraft/airfoils/GO229.sm" PP6 should have that in there, but maybe yours doesnt for some odd strange reason. Ouch...Iäve got the GO229.sm in startup.ppf, but I just checked my media/aircraft/airfoils directory, and... is it supposed to be... empty? IP: Logged |

If you have PP6 installed, then yes its supposed to be empty. All the files are packed up in data.par files. Is anyone else having a CTD problem? IP: Logged |

Hm... You know what, I've probably got a ghost in my SDOE installation. No problem reinstalling though, Iäve got everything ordered and ready to go :-D I'll reinstall and see if that cures the problem. Again, thanks for your time, Argon!IP: Logged |

Alexander, I hope that cures the problem but it really shouldnt be that away. Please report back.tommy, make sure the go229shad.tif file is in the textures directory. Are you running in D3D or Glide? I'll contact Razer about a D3D shadow fix. Also, try deleting your cache files in the Media directory. IP: Logged |

10/10 for your efforts here ArgonV.Unfortunately, I'm in D3D and get a CDT as well. Remove the updated .sm file and all is ok (except for my ability to fly the old one that is ) Cheers,

Have you guys downloaded the latest Go-229 from simfiles? Go there and download Final Go229 Update. Then extract and replace when asked. Also delete you cache files. There is no more fuse shadow. Its just a one piece shadow in the shape of the Go-229. If you still are seeing that stick shadow then there is something wrong somewheres else. There isnt even that stick shadow in the sm file anymore. [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 12-21-2000).] IP: Logged |

tommy, thats good news! Ive figured out the problem... the shadow was named exactly the same as the Me-262 shadow in the Go229.sm file. So what I did was rename it and it appears to be working! I will soon update the zip at Simfiles with the shadow renaming fix, aswell as the engine textures. You can now already find this at my site. Thanks for sticking by this guys. Your "debugging" was most helpfull! IP: Logged |

Argon, I downloaded the fix. Thanks a heap. I love flying her. I did find one minor visual flaw. Above 25,000 or so, where the contrails start, the leading edge of the contrails is about 4 feet in front of the engine intakes. Maybe another, I don't know, but when in a high altitude climb, stick all the way back and at full throttle, she can cruise at 275-300 mph and will actually accelerate. IP: Logged |

Jerry, thanks! It also worked for you too. I noticed that contrails problem earlier today and said "AH CRAP!" really loud... I have no idea how to fix that... I think it may possibly due to the engines arent centered in the 3d program. As for the climb rate, who knows!?!? Not enough flight data exits on this plane for me to accurately put in hardly anything. Its all based on "feel" and the few specs I do have. Right now the max speed is also incorrect... but we really dont need another uber jet on-line and if I actually got the thing flying its correct speed, it would be a super uber jet. (I believe the max speed at 10,000 feet right now is around 575? Real max speed is 590 mph at sea level and 640 at 21,000 ft.) I'll probably look more into the FM specs soon. Me, Diego and Nat and Aladar have a few things up our sleeves for this plane still. [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 12-22-2000).] IP: Logged |
