two questions here really, and I'm afraid the news isn't good....Yet1) The PBY Catalina isn't finished yet. From posts on the General Forum, snickers, it's builder, has had some problems with his hardware. Patience. It will be finished sometime! 2) Water landings and takeoffs as yet elude us. I have worked a lot on trying to make this work, but had some problems I couldn't crack. Firstly, water is coded to be destructive. This is necessary from the way the sim models terrain. You fall throgh water and out the bottom otherwise! Secondly, the water 'splashes' when something contacts it. This is due to the sim expecting the objects in it to be moving. This looks very odd indeed when the object is a stationary plane.... I haven't given up on the idea, but I needed to step back and collect my thoughts before trying again! IP: Logged |

Just a question about water landings/take-offs, and before you read ahead you must inderstand that i have no idea about what i'm talking about, but, I was playing Flight unlimited 3 the other day, and i was atempting to perfect water landings\take-offs in the Lake renegade. I was bouncing all over the place and getting very wet! Now, my point is, that when you try to land in anything OTHER than a seaplane, the game can detect that the non-seagoing vehicle should sink, but it allows the seaplanes to land with no difficulty. Mabey c\someone can find out how FU3 gets it to work, then apply it to FS.

The problem with SDOE is the hardcoded nature of the water. It is designed to destroy things that fall into it. The terrain is a thin skin, and if you fall out the bottom, CTD. The water is designed to destroy objects before this happens. Seaplanes were never considered when the sim was designed, and so no provision was made for a material that blocks the effects of water.IP: Logged | |
