It's true! The official nations v1.0 release is now available! What is nations? Its an entirely new kind of add-on for SDOE that will add, the Soviet Union, Italy and Japan to the three nations already represented in the game (Germany, US, UK). These nations are fully functional and 100% online and p5.3a compatible! They include:

-All the pilot sounds translated, re-recorded and 'authenticized'. Many sound more authentic now than the default nation sounds, imo!
-All the medal graphics for each nation have been added, and again look amazing!
-Several historically accurate squadrons for each nation have also been added, with full hangar information.
-Several scramble missions have been made for each country, although it would help if we had more soviet and italian planes!
-Proper ranks for each country, set on a system equivalent to those that shipped with the game
-I'm so excited right now I can't remember the rest!!!

The Nations zip file is available at the BCATP (link below). Please note that because a lot of work was put into this, especially by a core group of people, we have decided to ask something of the community; other than the sites listed below, please do not mirror the nations zip file until March 25th. As a small return for their hard work, it would be nice if the nations crew could generate a little more traffic from our work before the big boys take over (*cough* FSHangar *cough* ). These sites are:
BCATP (Werner)
War Paint Factory (Zoycite)
Flying Poodle (Poodle)
Lector's Fighter Squadron Section (Lector)
Tailslide's place (In lieu of Yevgeni O.)
gterl's site (sorry, I forget the name!) and Siggi too, if he has one.

This group of people, (Jeeves, Zoycite, Poodle, Lector, Gterl, Tailslide and Siggi) represent the backbone of the nations project. This group recorded wavs, make graphics, missions and squadrons, beta tested and otherwise did a TON of grunt work. When I got this whole thing started as a result of Laika's Ishak project, I intended to do it myself. I had no idea how much work was involved, and without their help I'd still be recording wavs.

Thanks also to spin for helping us with last-minute beta testing and bug squashing, and Jag for offering to host a nations beta on the hangar's ftp while we were having some big email problems. Two relatively small, but VERY significant points, well worth mentioning!

(I'm waiting for the guys next to the podium to start pulling on my sleeve here...)

I don't think I've forgotten anyone here, but in the event I have (or misspelled a name, tail) please let me know asap! I'm leaving for a couple weeks on saturday, and won't be able to fix anything on my site while I'm away.

So boys, download and enjoy!

Werner, are we able to advertise the Nations d/l, and give links to main page of the site where it can be downloaded. This is one of the biggest things to happen to SDOE since it came out, and I think it's really worth the advertisement. If the guys involved are posting it, or just yourself, I think all of us with a site would like to advertise it, and send ppl through your sites for the d/ls

Its like Christmas...you get a really cool toy but no batteries. Guys we really need Italian and Russian planes to really make this complete. To those that created this a very big THANK YOU!

Well- don't forget- you do have the I-16 to play around with- and Tail is making that Yak for the contest- so that will be out soon- now if we can only get you guys working on Italian planes- I'm think a Macchi or Fiat

Nations as a download is really just a new revised StringTable (with the nations names added) and a par6. All into your media folder... and as far as advertising goes- as long as the downloads stay on those sites listed by Werner until the 25th, I'd say the more we get, the better off we'll all be. It'll help sell France, Australia, Finland, and others when they are ready for Nations Project V.2.0 Hope you all enjoy it- it is fun! Siggi's voice alone is well worth the price of admission...very creepy

There is a yak out currently (it's really a disguised spit), and I don't know where exactly you can get it, but I know for sure you can at the BCATP.

109s and 190s with italian skins (diego has done quite a few) work well with italy.

...of course it would be nice to have some macchis or MiGs floating around...

NOTE: To all those who downloaded Nations previous to this release!! PR got me to thinking about this- the online glitch fix is in the new d/l- but you guys can fix it on your own. Just take out all the punctuation in the Russian squadron names (so instead of 73rd Guards IAP, V-VS you should have 73rd Guards IAP V VS)- take out all hyphens, commas, etc or else you will not see those squad names online- you will see the default American ones- although you still hear Russian wavs)- the official V.1 release has this fix.

Heya Nat-

Well- you can download V.2 of your own free will...V.1 will work fine alone...I mean- say you don't download France...and yet are playing online with someone who has France and a French squad in a mission...I believe the only thing that will happen is you will have a default squad show up instead- this should not cause any mismatches that I know of

Razer, don't take it the wrong way man, FSHangar is above BCATP even in my bookmarks. It's just that I could use a little more traffic at my site, and I'm sure others feel the same. Consider it an act of reverence - we recognize the Hangar is the big fish in the pond. After the 25th, go for it.

Oh, one more thing. Please smile! I get worried when people post like that and don't. I don't want to make anyone mad!

It is on the books to be next Weds web page update. There might not be a great change to it, I am just starting with a fresh 88 make over as opposed to just using the Beuf as a basis. I have a MC.200 body, but I have heard rumors of someone working on one already, in the mean time, I might just torque the 109 and 190 into a MC.200 and MC.202/205 like plane. I have no real performance stats, but it will be a starting point, especially since Diago has made such wonderful skins for them .

OK, I got it and it looks good, but on my screen, the various country menus say:

"strSoviet Union" and "strJapan" instead of "Soviet Union" and "Japan." The squadrons all look fine tho, and the US, Brit, and German menus are OK.

I assume I need to unBig one of the parfiles to fix this. Anybody want to give me a hint where to start lookin?

Someone might want to do up a short readme for how to put training missions using the Zero or I-16 into the appropriate places too. (I know, that's "easy," but there are some folks who shudder at the thought of making new folders and whatnot...)

I might take a stab at the MC 205 if nobody else is going to.

Heya jedi-

That's weird that the "str" is showing up...I'll download the Nations and compare to my copy and be right back with an answer to the problem. As far as the Zero and I16 go, they were mposis' and Laika's work and we didn't want to include them to take away hits from their sights- if anyone needs help doing this- all you do is go into that plane's loadout (say the Zero) and change the descCountry from Germany to Japan and change the descPicture and descStats again to Japan from Germany. Then go into Media/GUI/Art/Hangar and remove the a6m5 or Zero from Germany and place it in a newly created Japan folder. That should do it! Brb with that str problem...

You're right tail, we did have that problem in one of the early betas, but I though Lector squashed it. I deleted all test nations stuff off my HD and installed nations v1 fresh, and I don't have the bug. Is anyone else? This could be isolated. I hope it's isolated.

Should this not be an isolated event, PLEASE do not email Jeeves or myself about it. We are working on the problem right now, and every bit of time spent answering emails means less time bug squashing...

Werner

P.S. If anyone d/led a very early beta of this from Poodle's site a long time ago, and is having trouble making v1 work, Poodle has an app already made to fix the prob. I'd post it, but I'm running out of time!

Great Work !! I never see (hear) anything like that ! This is an absolutely MUST HAVE !

And it works fine, the only thing I noticed is that I get more CTD´s than before.
All other things are right, I installed SDOE completely new and patched to 1.5 + Meatwater Soundpack.

Thanks Guys !!!

Laika- Before that CTD bit scares people, I'd like to throw my 2c in here. There is no conceivable way nations will affect CTDs or framerate or anything like that. I think the CTD problem is just coincidence, because all we've done (heh, all!) is add lines to ppfs, wavs, missions and graphics to jpgs. No deep code editing or other seriously fundamental stuff.

What am I doing wrong? I get all of the nations to select from. I select Japan for my pilots nation. I start a mission called Bonsai - Bandits at ??? from the scramble menu. Then it goes through the loading checklist all the way to the targets, then it just quits and dumps me out to the desktop. Do I need to have a zero downloaded?
I have PP5.3 with the patch PP5.3a.

I guess it depends- is the Zero in the Planepack? I forget- I really don't see how a CTD could be occurring otherwise...the Scramble missions for Japan do use the Zero- so if you don't have it I can see where a CTD occurs. Do me a favor- try the Soviet Union or Italy and see if the same thing happens? They use a Spit and 109 (respectively) from the PP so shouldn't cause a CTD. Let me know...

OK- I just found my answer in another post by mposis...the Zero is not in the Plane Pack, so in order to run the Japanese Scramble missions without a CTD, you'll need to download the Zero (and why wouldn't you- it is a sweet plane!)...can someone refresh my memory as to where weasel can get the Zero- it's been a while since I've downloaded it.
