The URL is http://www.cs.odu.edu/~ccrambli/sdoe/fokker
Please submit any new skins you create.

Be sure to get Sv's Se5a if you don't have it already. http://www.schoolmusic.com/chickencoop/se5a/index.htm

His latest version is really "spiffy."

Reaper,

The updated Fokker requires a great deal of forward stick to fly level. In fact, when you start a mid-flight Training Mission or Hanger flight it immediately goes into a steep climb and pilot black out. Any fixes?

Hi ReaperMan!

What changes have been made to the Fokker? I need to put together the WWI planepack. This will include the SE5a and the Fokker DR1 for now. I would like to update the FM/DM of the fokker to better match the SE5a for dogfighting. Right now the Fokker is a litte sturdy - but I know my SE5a is a little weak I need to tweek them to get them more in line.

I know you made the Fokker its own plane and stuff, have you done any FM work? Do you want to help me with the WWI planepack? I need to make a german squad for the fokker as well as some cool WWI mission, etc.

Well, let me know!

Ack! Sorry guys, I haven't been keeping up with the board lately, in fact I have been gone since the 19th of last month and haven't had access to a computer (yeah, it's Hell).

Well I'm back now but starting up classes again and looking for a job.

About the Fokker,...
The changes that I made were very minor.
As it says in the readme, all I did was make the Fokker into a single plane, and also added stats and stuff in the hangar. I didn't make any changes to FM or DM.

Thanks ReaperMan!

I'll use yours as a baseline for the WWI planepack unless I find the FM has somehow changed from the original. I will compare them - I can't imagine that it would be altered.

I can guarantee you that mine is changed from the original. It requires a 3/4 forward stick to fly level. Neutral stick is a steep climb into a quick stall. Could there be a .sm file conflict somewhere? (whatever that means)

I dunno what's wrong with you (er, I mean... your Fokker), Jerry

I didn't make any changes to the original flight model, as I stated before.
You sure you might not have changed something?

I have been using it in a 3 on 3 fight vs. the new SE5a, with no problems (except that they're WWI planes, so they're slow and lose Alt. fast.)

Just to make sure I will download the one I have posted and install it, overwriting the files currently in the FokkerDr1a directory.
Then I'll try it out and see if I notice anything.

BTW, maybe now the Dr1a should be rebuilt, using the new SE5a as a base How ironic.

Great job, SV. The new SE5a is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to see your next project.

The Fokker Dr1 has a much better model (low polys, nice cockpit, etc.) It is rather simple (well, at least the fun part) to tweek the FM and DM to make it more fun to fly. Also new sounds are in order.

By the way, thanks for the compliment ReaperMan

I will double check your Fokker to verify the FM has not changed and then use it as a baseline for the WWI planepack. I will update the FM (not much here) and weaken the plane so at least it breaks when it crashes hard LOL. I will also add sounds. Does anyone have an idea of what WWI squad I should add for it? I am adding the Red Barron's squad for my new Albatross Dva...

I would love to see a new skin for it too! Anyone?

OK, now I see what Jerry was talking about. Sorry, Jerry. It appears that this only happens in the training missions. As I said before, the flight model has not been changed from the original (that's not to say that it's necessarily good).

I'm thinking the problem is probably due to either the starting speed, starting altitude, or maybe even the amount of fuel causing it to act funny.

I will change the training missions so this won't be a problem and then I'll update it.

Thanks, Jerry

Alright, it was the fuel that was causing the problems in the training missions. This is why I didn't experience it in the dogfight mission I've been playing. The thing had like 650 gallons of fuel! I changed it to 150, because the SE5a seems to fly well with that amount. I don't actually know what the fuel capacity of the Dr1A is but I guess I should find out.

Anyhow, I updated the training missions, and added a warning in the briefing of the Landing training mission: MAKE SURE YOU RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE!!!
Otherwise you'll do a headfirst flip into the ground every time.

I decided to pit the Fokker vs. an SE5a in the Air-to-Air Combat mission, since SV did the same with the SE5a. They will both be in the WWI pack anyway.

Thanks Reaper. It's good to know that it was the Fokker with too much fuel and not me. I didn't know which of us was the dumb fokker!

I'll go into the missions and change the fuel load.

Cool Reap!

I can remove the breaks from the Fokker and the SE5a - according to the OpenPlane Doc the breaks are optional - I have not looked at them yet - but it should be no problem.

The Fokker DR1 can hold 72 liters (19 gallons) of fuel. The SE5a can hold 137 liters (36 gallons). I will update the fuel tanks for both planes, but I think you may be able to over-load the plane in the mission editor still - I will check into this...
