To whom it may concern,

The recent post "Proud to be an SDOEer" got me to look at the CFS2 Forum for the first time. Although I thought it looked to modern and "techy" for a WW2 flight sim site, at least the banner graphic was striking and well done. Therefore, since I had some time on my hands this week, I cobbled together a proposal for updating this site's look.

The changes are minor, and involve simply making the first table on the page have two rows, effectively moving the info at the top right to below the new, centered graphic I've created. For whatever reason, I can't post images in this forum (I think it's my ISP), so go here to see what I mean.

If it's not possible, a great big hassle, or you just think it sucks, forget I mentioned it! It was fun to do in any case. I just want to do what I can for the best sim out there!

Looks good to me. Maybe we can have a contest to see who comes up with the best "look". We could vote on it like in the plane contest.

Looks good 3dp.

First thing that came to my mind was the impression that not only do we design them - but we fly them too. Sort of in line with the Open Plane theme if ya know what I mean.

Keep up the excellent work mate.

Cheers,

It looks nice. Note that I had to switch browsers to see it. It wouldn't show in my standard browser Netscape 4.75. (I know...I know..upgrade to 6.0, but it sux and I refuse to use Internet Exploder).

Thanks for the kind words! My intention was indeed to touch on the plane creation capabilities of OpenPlane and pay tribute to the plane makers by putting the "blueprint" in the background.

For anyone interested, I also strove for balance by including:

-Something from each of the three original nations (it may not be 100% clear, but the blueprint in the background is a British Manchester IA)

-A single-engined fighter, a twin engined fighter-bomber, and a bomber

-An original plane, a user created one, and one still in beta

I also kept it relatively small (it fits without scrolling on a maximized 640x480 display) so it wouldn't slow the site down.

Also, if it wasn't clear to the powers that be on the site, you may lift the graphic from the link above if you do decide to use it. As I said originally, the only other changes I made to implement it on my test version were to tweak the table fsicgold7.jpg existed in and center the graphic.

Very nice header. It loads very slow and I would hope any changes to this site would be done to speed it up.

I changed the JPG to a GIF, which reduces the size from 83K to just 40. Find it here. Even from my home page, it loads a lot quicker.

2 April 2001: I needed to clean up my website, so the examples cited above no longer work. Should anyone be rumaging through here at some later date and want to see it, email me and I'll put it back up. Thanks.
