Salute all,

Now, let see, there is the 1.5 patch,
ok, got that, then there is the 1.5.2.9 patch, oops but there is the 1.5.2.10 patch,
no mention of which one is the one to use.
And, oh yes, there is the mysterious 1.5.1 patch that no one has.......
But wait, there's more, the ww1 plane pack that is none exsistant. And to top this all off dead links to every server known to man. Is it just me, or is this sim just dead. You guys need some organization of a web site with updated news. Don't get me wrong, but if you want your sim to survive, you need more people for that to happen. I would advise a central data base if you can get it with all reQuired files and keep it updated.

Now if one of you fine people could help me with the other reQuired files, it would be most helpful.

And think of the pleasure you will have blowing me out of the sky. heh

Patch *.10 was made official online standard some time ago, and since patch 10 is plainly newer that patch 9, well, think about it...

There's no need to try and sound unsure about which patch to use, or have you never noticed that most games have a number of patches, but mostly ppl seem to be able to work out that using the newest is always a good idea.

Obviously since PP6.1 has a higher number than PP6, then you should realy use PP6.1, but then, that depends on if you want to fly online or offline, as do all things SDOE, so maybe someone that plays online will tell you what they are currently using as standard, last I heard they were using PP6.

The server listing lists SDOE servers, like alot of other online games, the servers aren't always available, but there was also a problem with some people not being able to see or rach the servers, maybe someone here will help you with more info, or you can do a search of the forums using the search function, but yes Cali12 is the most used server.

I think we're surviving quiet well after 3 years personaly more flyers would be great ofcourse, but we'er what makes this sim survive, us and VDU creating the patches, lack of popularity doesn't mean lack of survival

PlanePak 6.1 is not a stand alone install. You also need to have 6.0 installed.

Hello,
On-line standard is currently Patch 1.5.2.10 + Nations 2.0 + PP 6.1
You need to install, in that order :
- Patch 1.5 (compulsory, updates many files and allows the use of SDOE without the CD)
- Nation V2 (installs more countries)
- Eventually WWI Plane Pack (current version should be 2.0 but better check with the WW1 guys)
- Plane Pack 6.0
- Plane Pack 6.1
- Patch 1.5.2.10 (in a different directory, can be installed any time after Patch 1.5.)

I'd also recommend that you install Bavaria terrain, as it's beautifull and we tend to play many on-line missions over there. Anyway all the user-made terrains are worth the install, as they really add a lot of diversity (night missions, eastern front, Pacific...etc).
All the major add-ons can be D/L form simfiles.com, and if you have problems (slow connexion, missing links...) I have gathered everything on a CD with html interface + tutorial for easy install.
Welcome to SDOE
Sailor

Spade, check out this site for all of your WWI files http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/start.asp
and check out this website for proper installation procedure and links to WWII files http://www.geocities.com/archersweb/sdoeinstall.htm the only other thing you need to know about these websites is instead of installing .9 patch install .10 like the others said. One more thing, there is no need to be sarcastic and snappy, everyone here is willing to help as long as you ask.

As for the dead links, you are probably referring to the ones at FighterSquadron.com. In that case, yes, most are dead. But we dont have the power to update that list... But if you actually visited the forum more, you would see what is going on, and you would see that this sim is far from dead! As far as I know, the OP-WWI Plane Pack 2 and the OP-WWI Plane Pack 2 Patch are not non-existant. Weve just had like 5 guys join our OP-WWI group and they all downloaded it. Try going to these sites:

heh, ya but this one site had the patch being the only one and then I cross referanced the dates of the posts and the 1.5.2.10 had an earlier date than the 1.5.2.9 heh.

[QUOTE] But if you actually visited the forum more, you would see what is going on, and you would see that this sim is far from dead![QUOTE]

I think that was half my problem, this forum was 'server not found' when I tried it, and I was relying on information posted on other forums with dates like Jan 12th 2000. I went to other severs and I COUNTED around 20 or so dead links, when I got a good one it slowly brought me back here, after trying dead downloads from servers that were up but files were gone or no links to them. It took me about 4 to 5 hours to actually connect to something current, hence my tongue and cheeck, and my concern for your sim.

There are a lot of dead sites out there, but I don't think this is a problem limited to SDOE. Spend a little time around here and you'll find the active ones. As for the main page on this site, yep it's our own little time capsule, but hopefully that will change before too much longer.

Welcome to SDOE

Spade ... the 1.5.2 servers patch is something you WILL need to see the people flying online.

When the sim was patched to 1.5 by Parsoft, the game needed a patch to the servers.dat file to point it to the servers runing that version. The 2 are not compatable.

If you don't download and use the new servers.dat file ( the 'patch' for the 1.5.1 servers ) you will get in all right, but see an empty lobby!

On the other matters, the fact that we do not own or have direct access to the Fightersquadron.com space, or this forum is something that worries ALL of us. It is central to the community, and out of our hands ..... and it fell over AGAIN as you saw.

Certain other key sites, like Razers FSHangar are in flux as he tries to raise the cash to support a site with the bandwidth he needs .... coz free webspace doesn't support a popular site with downloads!!!!

There are a hardcore of sites, most of which are listed above, which are 'MUST' sites for bookmarks. They will keep you in touch with everything. And if this forum blows again, try the one at SimHQ ... you should be able to pick up a few 'FSIC Refugees' there in times of Board Death.

Oh yes .... and we HAVE talked about alternative homes for our community .... but no satisfactory consensu of opinion was reached!

p.s. where did you find all the dead links?
