Just testing the water for the next online event in February... I've been pencilling out some scenarios, and I think I have a scheme drawn up whereby we could have the Battle of France event run in a "limited dynamic" fashion. For those of you who play IL2, think of it as VEF-light. Still only one day, but your performance in the missions would affect the composition of the next battle and so on. What I would need for this to work, besides enough bodies to show up, is a couple people who have a head for strategy and would want to be the commander or adjutant for either axis or allies. The major risks in doing this are two fold - firstly that even with prefab templates covering most eventualities, the time gap between missions would be too great. I already have a way of dealing with that(While you're flying an air superiority mission I'm prepping the next ground attack, and then I delete the air cover of the losing side, save and launch next mission). The second risk is simply the unforseen - Clash of Eagles went way more smoothly than Fox and Rats because it was the same format, so we knew the drill. I am concerned about that same format getting stale, as I have plans for several more events. Another issue here is immersion - would you rather be a part of a simulation of what actually happened, or have a chance to affect the outcome? I can see arguments for both sides so I figured I'd open the floor to the people who matter in this - the users. Feedback appreciated. ------------------ Werner Molders Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

Well...from my POV...I think...well...ok, what was the question? I think Dynamic sounds great myself....but the work load on editing might create online probs? Or had you already figured that into the equation? Sounds like a awful lot of work on the guy editing to keep it up to date as missions progress, but if it can be made to work, I think I personally would like that venue.

Werner, this sounds great, I'll take whatever you choose . My pesonnal preference would be to use historically accurate situations for immersion. From this start, either you chain up several such situations (and you are bound by the historical chain of events) or you start from a given point (like either from situation on may 10th in the morning or may be from just the day after Dunkerque with the Luftwaffe "Paula" raid) and let the events in the missions alter the course of events. For this 2nd possibility, what about introducing a neutral referee, (US ?) someone in a neutral unit that would then dispatch the forces in the next mission according to the previous outcome. This could also mean adapting the starting point of the units according to where they stopped or how far they advanced previously. Anything i could do for help, please let me know. BTW what is the date for the event ? SailorIP: Logged |

Date TBAGood ideas, I'll take them into consideration. I'm leaning towards scripted because I could also see issues with stalemating, but we'll see. Plus with scripted I get to make one of my trademark grand finale missions. Werner ------------------ Werner Molders Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

One last thing, with the nice Morane 406 and Bloch 152 done by Scorpion Rouge, you now have 3 of the 4 front line french fighter of BoF (with Pachy's Dewoitine). Only missing is the Curtiss Hawk a75 (most successful french fighter of 1940). FYI, after Dunkerque, they used some MS406 in ground attack missions in a (desperate) effort to stop Panzer columns marching past the Somme towards Paris. Imagine attacking a PzIII with that poor 20mm cannon with only 60 rounds in an obsolete fighter . However, during the weeks between may 10th and Dunkerque (i.e. june 3rd) MS406 and Bloch 152 bore the most part of the french defense while Dewoitine squadrons were slowly brought up to battle readyness (delivery were a bit late). 2 bad we don't have any other allied ground attack aircraft (Breguet 693, Loire-Nieuport 401, Blenheim or Fairey Battle). Anyway I'd find it very nice to see one (or more) of these french fighters done by Scorpion or Pachy used in some of these missions just my 2 cents Sailor------------------ IP: Logged |

Sailor, is the SDOE squad GC34 still around? If so, if you had some suggestions that you wanted to send to me as a group I would certainly pay close attention to them. My ultimate goal with these events is immersion for the participants, and GC34 members would know better than most what they would expect out of a BoF-themed event. If I go scripted I will try and stick as close to the history as our plane and vehicle set allows, but if I go limited dynamic I won't distinguish as specifically as you describe above, out of administrative necessity. Keep the feedback coming. ------------------ Werner Molders Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

Werner, Concerning GC III-4, although or on-line activity has been hardly higher than the historic squad one (not a high target, that one never saw war action), I'm fairly sure everyone is still around and i'll mail them tonight to see who's interested and try to gather some ideas. Feed back ASAP. Danke schön SailorIP: Logged |

Where can I get Scorpion Rouge's planes. I've tried a few times but have always come up empty handed. I've got the Dewoitine and it's very nice. I'd like to see an Arsenal VG-33, I used to fly one in CFS and it was lots of fun. We also used to fly the Bloch 152 in CFS, it was a tough bird to master and therefore it got nicknamed the Cinder Bloch.wat32 IP: Logged |

Thanks Werner, I had followed that link before but it just loaded a blank page, then I remembered I had scripting turned off, turned it back on and I got the DL page A OK. Thanks again.wat32 IP: Logged |

Hi Werner,Wich planes have take part into that battle. Maybe I can model some of then, and put into game as AI only planes (without excessive details and interior modeling - basically a flyable shell). With this point of view - low poly planes can be placed as a "wave" formation much many as tradicional 4 or 5 formation - maybe. cheers, K-A ------------------ economic classroom IP: Logged |

Thanks KA, but with Scorpion Rouge's latest efforts we now have an ample supply of planes for the event. While there are certainly still gaps in the plane set, my ability to write missions as immersive as previous events is not at all impaired. Also, having lots of AI planes is like asking for lag, and already I cap the player limit at 10 per mission and create variations of each mission so we never fly with AI specifically to avoid lag (and with great success so far). Thanks for the offer though KA.
