I told myself I wouldn't post any pics till she was done but I just made the coolest new thing in SDOE and I've been trying to show someone for the last hour. So, here you go!

Nice dive brakes huh? Well its not modeled! Its all done with a texture using the alpha layer. (eat your heart out IL-2)

We tryed to do this on the dauntless years ago but I just figured it out and man does it look great!

I have a FM problem I need to track down then add the brakes on the other wing and make them work and she should be ready to go.

Oh, and finish the release scheme I'm working on.

Sun: the pic above is of the A-36a Apache which we already have I've just completely redone it using the latest P-51B. what you see above is about 2 days of changes to the P-51B. The brakes will work but I'm more happy about them being transparent without modeling holes. (going to save a sh*t load of FR's)

Diego: I know!

AHHHHHH! Thank you. Is the 4 cannon option going to be available?

Now if we only had an Oscar.

Wishful thinking.

Well i have the the brakes in game and moving all i need to do now is setup the code to activate drag on the brakes when openned.

then i have to do a complete rebuild cause I screwed the FM up somewhere and I can't figure out whats wrong.

anyway, heres some pics. (i have a small problem with the alpha layer but I hope I can fix that before It goes out the door.)

Cool Razer...

Maybe you can help me with the Dauntless when the time comes when I try my hand at getting her fixed up-- although I am partial to the holes in the dive brakes for the Dauntless myself.....stubborn, aren't I?

bad news guys. I forgot that if a texture is light in color and uses an alpha layer it will "glow" in the dark during night missions. The dive brakes "glow" now and there is no way to fix this unless VDU redoes the engine to handle alphas in a different way.

It looks like the Apache is going to have to be released with brakes that look like this.

sorry, I know the others look way better but I can't release something that glows int he dark.

They both look great Razer but realistically, how much dive bombing was done at night in WWII? Sounds too risky, plus the reason for dive bombing was accuracy which you would lose at night...so my guess is very little.

What about having them as a loadout option. so u could have DAY dive brakes (with the alpha) and then night dive brakes(solid)

could it be done?

Just add a second-level .lod. Have the "close" .lod use the alpha, and .lod2 use the "solid" part. You probably won't be taking a lot of screenshots of your own plane at night, and at "dogfight distances" you'll only see the "non-glowing" lower-level .lods.

Looks great btw

And yes, the same principle does work with the SBD
