I've been away from SDOE for a little while, playing all sorts of other games, including Op. Flash, Commandos 2, Max Payne and so on. But now that I've tried every WWII flightsim there is except for Il-2, and none of them give me that feeling of flight that SDOE has, so I've decided to return again. Well, sorta...I thought it wise to do a complete un- and reinstall, installing only the PP's and Nations and some terrains, to get a mostly bug-free SDOE. The trouble is, that's exactly what it isn't! Now, whenever I hit the 'Fly' button, SDOE, you guessed it, CTD's. No matter what renderer or resolution I set, it CTD's when I try to fly. I had a look at the error.log, and it's a bit strange, it says something about detecting a Glide card, even though I have a GeForce 2MX. I've tried both OpenGL and D3D, all resolutions, reducing max texture size, deleting the cache files and a lot of other stuff. My system: AMD 1GHz 256mb 133 Ram GeForce 2MX-400 with 64mb Ram Here's my Error.log, it was getting quite big, so I deleted it and tried a few times before posting here again. **** NEW SESSION AT Fri Dec 28 14:09:46 2001 (build Nov 20 2001, 23:27:02) **** Message: found a glide board Message: Voodoo ram 2MB rev 1h Message: We think Glide can support 2 resolutions Message: Direct3D:Primary Display Driver Message: Direct3D:NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 **** NEW SESSION AT Fri Dec 28 14:10:03 2001 (build Nov 20 2001, 23:27:02) **** Message: found a glide board Message: Voodoo ram 2MB rev 1h Message: We think Glide can support 2 resolutions Message: Direct3D:Primary Display Driver Message: Direct3D:NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 **** NEW SESSION AT Fri Dec 28 14:10:30 2001 (build Nov 20 2001, 23:27:02) **** Message: found a glide board Message: Voodoo ram 2MB rev 1h Message: We think Glide can support 2 resolutions Message: Direct3D:Primary Display Driver Message: Direct3D:NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 Message: CLauncher::Launch(): SetupNetwork() Message: CLauncher::Launch(): SetupSound() Message: Joy #0 Caps flags Bh, type 104h, axes 3h, buttons 6h, POV 1h, sample 0h, time 0h, firmrev 0h, hardrev 0h, driver 3000Ch Message: IDirectInputDevice::GetProperty(DIPH_RANGE, X) -10000 10000 Message: IDirectInputDevice::GetProperty(DIPH_RANGE, Y) -10000 10000 Message: IDirectInputDevice::GetProperty(DIPH_RANGE, Z) 0 10000 Message: Joy #1 Caps flags 3F08h, type 604h, axes 6h, buttons Ah, POV 4h, sample 3E8h, time 3E8h, firmrev 0h, hardrev 0h, driver 0h **** NEW SESSION AT Fri Dec 28 14:11:37 2001 (build Nov 20 2001, 23:27:02) **** Message: found a glide board Message: Voodoo ram 2MB rev 1h Message: We think Glide can support 2 resolutions Message: Direct3D:Primary Display Driver Message: Direct3D:NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

Do you have both a Voodoo and a GeForce in there?Maury IP: Logged |

Nope, only the GeForce.I just remembered this: Sometimes, when it CTD's, an error message pops up, saying that a proggie called Ddhelp has illegal-opped. After that, all programs and games illegal-op when I start them. Wild! [This message has been edited by semmern (edited 12-28-2001).] IP: Logged |

semmern, but SDOE thought that you have the vodoo installed.I never get such "found glide board" message. Did you put your old sdemoms.ini into your Fighter Squadron folder? Or you might not uninstalled the old glide drivers in windows.Rendsburger IP: Logged |

I have had a Voodoo 3 installed, yes. There are no drivers, dll's or anything left of them. A while ago, I found the glide2x and glide3x.dll's still to be in my Windows/System folder, so I deleted them. The weird thing about SDOE thinking I suddenly have a Voodoo is that I've flown a lot with the GeForce before. I also installed some older drivers, 14.10 or something, and the problem persists. I'm stomped!Could someone mail me their sdemons.ini, just in case? semmern@hotmail.com [This message has been edited by semmern (edited 12-28-2001).] IP: Logged |

Ok, I tried to narrow the problem down. I did a total reinstall, only applying the 1.5 patch, and installing 1.5.2.10 to a different dir (i previously had it in the SDOE dir, it's now in a folder called Fighter Squadron patch). As far as I can see, it's installed correctly. The normal SDOE now works, but .10 doesn't. I'm now going to install the PP's and Nations and so on, one at a time, to see what might have caused the CTD-all-the-time problem.IP: Logged |

The patch still doesn't work, but 1.5 works. .10 CTD's every time I try to fly.IP: Logged |

Sounds like you have a Direct X issue, Ddhelp is part of Direct X, specifically part of DirectDraw I think, which is why once it's dumped none of your other games will run. It may just be an incompatibility prob with your version of Direct X and the patched version of SDOE, or it could be you need to re-install your graphics drivers after a recent install of Direct X ? I had a similar problem after installing Direct X 8.1, untill I re-installed my detonator drivers For my Ge-Force II Pro.------------------ Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition IP: Logged |

I've reinstalled drivers more times than I have fingers . I'm gonna try a reinstall of DX8.1, or maybe 8.0IP: Logged | |
