First off, I'd like to thank everyone who came out. We had a great time on the whole, and technically things went a lot smoother than The Fox and The Rats. In fact, our first mission launched a mere thirty minutes after the appointed start time, and for the first ten to fifteen of those minutes we were just waiting as more players came in anyways. Everyone who showed up had the required files with a couple exceptions, the most common being people who had the 'wrong' Jeeves' loadouts. That was remedied by emailing the necessary files, and didn't cause very many delays. For the next event I hope for similar or even better technical performance, where the only slow downs are human-related. As it was we finished seven missions in three hours, not bad.

Ok, on to the fun stuff.

Mission 1
As the American forces move into the Bavaria area, a heavy bombardment group is stationned at Biberach airfield in the North West. To the east is the heavy industrial complex at Landsberg. The mission was for the allies to bomb the complex (while avoiding the civilian area) and for the local axis defenders to shoot down the bombers from approx six to seven thousand feet with quad 20mm cannons.

One of the first things you notice about the Bavaria Terrain are the vistas. Here is a great view out the port window of one of the bombers.

Note the poor weather. Classic shot of a B17 dropping its eggs over Landsberg.

Watching the bombs from another bomber explode.

Banking after the bomb run. Extensive damage to the target area.

Alerted by the explosions following the first bomber, ground defenses spring into action. Here I claim the first of the bombers to fall, Rendsburger I believe.

Another bomber has its wings sawed off by the quad 20mms.

The tired but relieved look on a pilot's face after making it home in one piece. Some of his friends did not, however.

...next up, Mission 2.

Mission 2

The American advance continues, and now Marktoberdorf is under attack. Because of fuel shortages, the Sherman tanks have to be left behind at Marktoberdorf air base (under allied control now), and Jeeps launch the assault. Defending are elite ground troops and some Panzer IIIs. The Jeeps aren't on a suicide mission however, as they have air support from rocket-carrying P38s.

Not too many shots from this mission, just a Jeep hiding in some bushes waiting to ambush a tank.

Because of allied fuel shortages, reinforcements have not arrived so American rearguard security personel are being rushed to the front. In this chaos, security at Landsberg is less than consolidated and a German spy is able to infiltrate the airbase. After sending a signal to the local Luftwaffe HQ in Sonthofen, he takes off in the prototype Gotha 229 in the dead of night. The plane is spotted, and fighters from Marktoberdorf are dispatched. The Gotha managed to slip past the Mustangs, but ran out of gas must miles from Sonthofen. Coasting her down to a landing uphill of the base, the pilot rolls the plane onto the base and in front of a hangar (note to Rendsburger: open the doors ) The Mustangs head south, fight through the front line flak barrage and take on the 109s dispatched to escort the valuable prototype...

The spy's view shortly after landing near Sonthofen.

Killer Ants overflies the Gotha, preparing to make another pass.

Killer Ants later makes an "unscheduled landing" thanks to the Luftwaffe defense, two of whom are parked next to the Gotha in this shot.

Mission 4

As the allies advance, the front line crumbles and the situation in Sonthofen becomes precarious. Under cover of darkness, a high ranking party official is escorted from Sonthofen to the safety of a nearby airbase.

One for the insurance agents... This is me in the SdKfz and Pye in the Citroen. About a split second later Pye gives me a 'love tap' with his civilian automobile which causes my heavily armoured military anti-aircraft platform (can you tell I'm bitter? ) to explode outright. Ahem. Coupled with another vehicular homicide in town, Pye's escort was reduced from four to one.

Steffen I believe, taking up position by some camo netting. That netting rocks.

A Mustang searching for its prey. This plane would later have its wing roots neatly severed.

Mission 5

As the advance regains momentum, American fighter bombers are sent in swarms to clear out the valley north of the Berghof and east of Neuschwanstein and Sonthofen. The few remaining 190s in the area are sent to intercept.

Maury in the Lightning, and me in the Focke Wulf. I love the look of the snowy ridge in this one, and the glare off the glass. Very cold-feeling. Anyways here I spot Maury and start a large loop to get on his six. He's a darn good pilot though, and it took about five minutes of corkscrews and other amusement-park-style-maneouvers to get in firing position.

Maury again, sans one propeller.

I came at him too hard and smacked up my own propeller. Too bad he has the spare and I don't. I coasted to a landing just behind enemy lines. Thanks to Rendsburger for coming to my aid as at least two were trying to pick me off.

Mission 6

The last defending troops are making their last stand at Sonthofen. Early one evening the Americans send in Jeeps to probe the defenses, with an British nightfighter unit sent in to assist. The Germans initially defend with SdKfz 251s and motorcycles.

Lights on in Neuschwanstein to guide the approach of the night fighter.

A paraflare dropped over the battlefield.

The fighting in Sonthofen.

"Oh, s***"

...next up, the final assault begins!

Mission 7 - the Grand Finale

Due to a logistics screw up, the Americans were provided not with reconditioned Sherman engines, but reconditioned Matilda tanks. While the logistics officer is getting hauled to the brig, the battle begins anyways...

German Panzers advance on the town to reinforce the battered defenders.

The "before" picture

My tank, in position.

Two other panzers catch sight of advancing matildas and open fire (matilda visible, look where the turrets are pointing).

A round from the Matilda caught mid-flight.

Panzer patrols the battle-damaged town.

Definitely my favourite shot of the campaign. The church is lit up by the explosion of artillery. Artillery which, to those for whom this was their first exposure, led to some reluctance in entering the town. This caused most of the fighting to occur on the outskirts. Whether this was for real or just people playing the part I don't know.

The battle won, a Matilda holds position next to a razed house.

***

My thanks again to all those who came out, and all the builders who gave us the tools to run this event.

The next event will follow a Battle of France theme, and is tentatively scheduled for sometime in February. Some people send cards on Valentines. I encourage you to send hot lead and high explosive.

Cheers!

Werner

Guys, you have no idea how much I want to take part in these tournaments after seeing the debriefing screens!!! But my 56k connection is totally unreliable, it disconnects at irregualr intervals, and besides, I have some problems with SDOE as well, I think my drivers are the problem. Until I get a broadband, I'm forced to just drool at those screens (after waiting at least file minutes for them to load )

Despite a couple of problems for startup, I personaly think this was my best 'online-time' so far. The missions with the GP2 simply rock!
BTW the 'technical-support' during the startup procedure (as mentioned the Jeeves-Loadouts) was simply amazing. In a short period I received 5 e-mails with the correct loadouts and/or links to the needed files. A big 'thankyou' to the whole comunity here

Werner: Count me in for the next battle!!

cheers

OK....the loadouts from simfiles are outdated and will be removed as soon as the editing feature is working again there-- the ones you should have are a 9 meg file which I couldn't seem to get uploaded at simfiles. They are here and are the best and most accurate:

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm glad everyone had a good time. btw for reference's sake 'Battle of France' is just the working title for the next event, I'll end up making another of the event posters with an event name and all that.

About the loadouts, I apologize but you have some deleting to do. I had a 50/50 chance and, my luck, I grabbed the old ones.

First step, grab the file Jeeves has linked to in his post so you don't forget it later.

Next, select the following and print it off, so you can use it as a checklist. loadout.ppf files need to be deleted from the following aircraft/xxxx folders:

SeaMosq\
a6m2\
a6m5\
b17f\
b17g\
Beau21\
BeauI\
BeauVI\
BeauX\

Spit\
Spit1a\
SpitIX\
Ta152\
Typh\
Yak3\

There is also a lanc.sm file in the Lanc/ folder which came with the older-version-loadouts, and I think that one should be deleted too.

Next, rename your data12.par file to something like data12.bak and then unzip the new data12 parfile from the correct loadouts into Media/.

My apologies for the mistake, hopefully by February we'll all be running on the base pack system anyways.

Werner

P.S. Maury, email me your shots, zipped please.

Top Marks Debreif as usual Werner, Thanks for organising it, thanks all that took part,

I turned up as Harmen left, was hoping to have a couple of tank shells firing in his direction in particular , maybe next time.

Werner, I told the gerneal you drove over a land mine to save the generals Ass.

The General gave you a medal postumously at arrival at the Whore house party at the Airfield control.

It must have been those Bayern resistance fighters, they are still in the hills.

Isn't that right Rendsburger

while my emailprovider is busy and i cant send emails until now i guess i found the solution why not more then 8 players were allowed in one game.
Please check your sdemons.ini for following line:

After i added it to the ini all 10player mission shows up in game.
