I just discovered this sim a little while ago and bought a copy off ebay ... I just got it and it's great ... I like it better than Combat flight simulator 2 (I don't know why ... maybe I like the feel better and the scenery ... and the fact that a little box doesn't appear around targets which is so dumb in CFS2) and maybe even better than WW2 fighters. I still haven't installed the patch or anything else (plan to get all the things needed for the WW1 additions too ... as I really like Red Baron 3d and would like a new ww1 sim too) ...

Also just curious , I just tried to download the patch (at ftp://lynx.inertiagames.com/pub/fs/fspatch150.exe) from this page
http://www.fightersquadron.com/standard.php3 ... and it said file not found. I'm going to get the patch from http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/downloads/fspatch150.exe instead so I hope it's the same one

Also curious if I install the wings with wires patch at http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/start.asp will that ruin it for playing online (or offline) with ww2 planes

Thanks for any help

Hello Crimson,

Welcome to SDOE Before you install any of the patches and add ons check out Archers Website http://www.geocities.com/archersweb/sdoeinstall.htm follow the installation order listed on his website, some people have trouble if they install the add ons in a different order. Make one change though, instead of installing the 1.5.2.9 patch install the 1.5.2.10 patch.

Next for WWI flying go to jgro's website here http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/index.asp this site has all of the WWI info and files that you need. Go to the getting started section to get the WWI plane pack and patch. We also use the Somme terrain for WWI so be sure to DL that also. One more thing I would recommend is joining the MSN contact list, Myself and several other WWI pilots are on that list and we get together and chat and fly, plus we can help you out directly if you get stuck with something.

Hope this helps and good luck

Oops almost forgot, The current patch for most people flying online is 1.5.2.10 patch so yes the wings with wires patch is good for online play, here is a post with a link to the 1.5.2.10 patch http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/000205.html

The WWW Patch version 1.5.2.10 is ESSENTIAL for online play as it's now Online Standard, Online Standard means you MUST have this to play online.

Welcome to the world of SDOE Crimson!

I got everything installed except the ww1 pack 2-2 and the OP WW1 PP2 patch for the ww1 planes. However, now the clouds have this problem that the textures go back and forth (I read some similar posts where they said they shimmered which might be the same thing). Also, theres definate divisions sometimes on the horizon for cloud layers ... and the gunsite has a lighter square around just the target circle sometimes.

I have a Voodoo 3 2000 with DX8.1 ... 256 megs Ram ... win98 ...

This is very odd which means the game really looked better before the patch. I put the patch program (app.exe and it's accompanying files) in a separate folder and can still run the original which looks good . (Of course the new planes are great and I hope I can get a solution for the graphics problems)

Thanks ... I look forward to it... however I noticed something, this problem only occurs when I run the app.exe not the SDemons.exe.

Anyway ... I downloaded the ww1 stuff and all I can say is wow ... after playing RB3D for a while, these planes are awesome (except they can't stall or spin at all) ... the AI player was tough (RB3D AI wasn't much really)

Crimson292,

Welcome to the JOY of SDOE If you need help then you've come to the right place as these guys know their stuff and are very helpful too.

If you are planning on playing sdoe wwii online much the Bavaria Terrain is a MUST HAVE! It's a 23meg download but it's a really fantastic terrain and we use it frequently to fly some really cool missions in.

If you need any help with installing and setting up PP6.1 and or Patch 1.5.2.10 for online use pls email me.

No I only get the cloud thing when I run the app.exe ... it's fine when I run the SDemons.exe . I'm thinking though that the app.exe is the patched version so I'd have to use that online

You can select D3D with the app.exe patch in your options screen. With a Voodoo card you should have the choice of Glide or D3D. You need to determine if this is Glide only related problem only. Plus, if the problem goes away in D3D, you can use D3D and the latest patch until the next patch fixes the Voodoo card problems.

Yes it is very hard to get aircraft to spin in OP-WWI. I know you can with the Albatros's, S.E.5a and Pfalz D.IIIa. But all of the aircraft should stall, and even wing tip stall.

The Voodoo problem you are describing is only in Glide with the Wings with Wires unofficial patches. But as VDU said, it will be fixed with the next patch.

You can find the Somme terrain here: http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/downloads/Full_Somme.zip

There is also a Somme Mission Pack here: http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/downloads/Somme%20Mission%20Pack.exe

Enjoy!

Thanks Argon, I'll download those right away

... as for the graphic anomalies, they only happen in the app.exe with D3d or glide (tried openGL but that screws up my screen res so its stuck and last time it crashed so I won't bother). In the SDemons.exe , these problems aren't shown in either D3D or glide (although there are minor problems with the dover cliffs textures in that they look a bit jagged at the water line but I assume that's something other)

Anyway, no big deal for now .... maybe my old voodoo 3 has reached that time to say goodbye.

Argon V,

Are you the same Argon as in IL2 at simHQ ?
Do you still spend much time with SDOE after IL2 came about ?
I will probably spend most of my precious sim-time with IL2 for a while now, but keep checking FSIC for excitiong news.
Before IL2 I think SDOE was the best flightsim, and the one I spent most time with, not bad for a 3 year old sim !
I think one of the reasons I like IL2 is because the special feeiling of flight, sensation of speed down low, and slightly unpredictable AI(they have personality), resembles SDOE. And damage modeling, of course, no generic fireball as soon as you touch the ground outside an airstrip. I must admit that I spent much time in SDOE setting up crashes, and trying to manuever badly (on purpose) damaged birds. )
Its like beeing back in SDOE when the plane rotates on the tarmac after a landing with a broken wheelgear.

Go here for Bavaria Terrain...
http://www.fightersquadron.com/flightline/betazip/bavaria.zip

If after you have downloaded and installed Bavaria and you notice that Neuschwanstein Castle is appearing as a mass of white sticks and aeroplanes stuck together, do this...go into Media\targets\Bavaria\Neuschwanstein\ and copy the castle texture NeuCastle.tif. Go to: Media\Structures\textures\ and paste.

Enjoy!

Hehe yup! The very same ArgonV. In fact I have many homes in the sim community. The many SDOE forums, SimHQ, Dogfighter boards, Targetware, Combatsim, SWWISA, ilyushin2.net, Bombs-away.net and now the WWI Officers club. I dont post on a few except every once in a while (ilyushin2.net, Dogfighter and Bombs-away.net) but I sure as heck visit them every day! Chances are if you see an ArgonV on the net anywhere, its me!

I still enjoy SDOE very much so! I dont play the WW2 side of things very often any more, but I have my WW2 beta install just to play around with... (When I want to take up a Go 229 or Me 163 or a Natter against some bombers) and Im eagerly awaiting the Luft. Pack and all the work thats being done with the base packs.

BUT Im still going strong with OP-WWI!! Things have slowed way down after the OP-WWI PP2 Patch release (We need a break!) but there are still many a project in the works.
