is it possible to import microsoft flight simulator 3d models into 3D studio MAX or AC3D and then eventually export them as SDOE 3d models?

That depends. This may not be worth the trouble as the resulting 3D model will have errors and will take long to fix. Please read those two old threads:

Also, importing directly the DXF into AC3D does not work well. You loose all normals. It seems for the best results you need to import the DXF in 3DS Max. Of course this can be a conversion only to a format that AC3D will happily import such as VRML or 3DS.

Also, I have had no success with models for CFS2 or FS2000 onwards, The earlier models are low in detail, and realy not good for SDOE. You can use them as a 3D pattern, but must scale them down a LOT to get the right size.

It really isn't worth the effort in the long run. Better to build from scratch.

thnx for the info pachy. i just converted the model i wanted to convert and to be honest, it looks real good and so far i havent stumbled upon any errors.
