I was wondering how you did it. Run a site with tons of large files and downloads. You have your own server. My site is getting kinda large and I need to move but at the Webhosting Talk forums there seems to be major problems with all the hosting services. I am with HostSave now (been over a year) and no problems at all. But, they have only one plan and when you go over the alloted amount the price is too high. Any advice? Hawk, an alternative sollution could be a good one if you're able.. If you have a cable connection, ie permantly connected to the net from home, you could set your own PC up as a server and have your website on your own computer, this way the only limit is your harddrive space, and your site is only down if you are doing maint. on your PC, that is ofcourse, if you're like me and never turn it off. Since NBCI closed down I've not rebuilt a site, but I did seriously consider setting up my own server. As for other good hosting on the net, I realy don't know IP: Logged |

Nice idea, but here in Canada the cable ISPs have begun to protect their bandwith by liniting the speed upstream.Last year I could download from my brother's cable home/server at up to 100KB/sec (my DSL limit) but by now they have brought it down to about 15KB to match DSL. It is an attempt to control the masive trafic caused by things like Napster. I am still expecting them to come out with a small busines package with open trafic... expect the price to be open as well . IP: Logged |

What I am saying here is that upload is limited. In the case of DSL it is by design, in the case of cable it is done by the ISPs to better manage bandwith($$$$$).If you host a server and I download from you I should get about 10-15KB even if I could pull 100KB from a commercial server using a high speed dedicated link.

BF is 100% correct, same thing here in the UK, my NTL cable has a max upload of 15Kbs, but still, I think this is a good answer for someone stuck for large webspace, especialy since you can use all the code you ever wanted from a website host (aslong as you can find it on the net lo)IP: Logged |
