What are the choice joysticks among the Pilots here?

Opinions on Force Feedback, is it worth the extra money?

Do rudder pedals still exist for PC Gaming?

How do I display the Frame rate for SDOE?

Thanks all!

Wait till the Thrustmaster Cougar system and get the best stick and throttle ever made (ALL METAL!!).

I don't think so, but I know others like it. It's just that the sticks with FF suck right now. Maybe TM will come out with a good one.

Yes, I have some Elite rudder pedals by Thrustmaster and they are great plus they will work with the new Cougar system even with it being old connector and the new stuff is USB.

Hmm... Iīve got to check out those pedals.
For me it works with the MS Sidewinder FF2
though, itīs much more heavy an real feeling in responce than the old MS Sidewinder precision pro that was just flickering around (could be the settings in my MS profile activator too, or the new patch for that matter).
I prefer the FF instead of none since (even though Itīs not realistic) it bring some realism to the guns & flying experience
Iīve heard there are better sticks than MS stuff,
but it works for me.
Piece of advice; take one or more home (if possible) and try them out, since thatīs the only way to know what you prefer.
Cheers Steve

Hello,
I use MS Force Feedback and like it very much. It's not very precise but the way FF is done in SDOE makes it very usefull : you can actually feel the amount of pressure you have on the control surfaces changing according to airspeed. You can anticipate stalls, feel vibrations in the plane in steep dives and so on. This realy adds a lot to immersion IMO. Just wished ther is a more precise model than MS FF.

Of all the sticks/combos I've used, CH is the best one of the bunch.

Satiek Cyborg 3d (game port) has the best feel/hand position but after about a year of use the stick went "south", it would lose it's calibration after about 10 minutes of flying. The sensitivity was fine and this stick was very good but it just didn't hold up. Customer support stinks. Easy to setup a profile.

Satiek X36/35 (game port) never really worked too good for me, it was also too sensitive and you had to use stickworks which made the stick feel to mushy. Also the programming of the keys was a pain, and didn't work too good either, but this was the game port one. The X36 never felt as good as the Cyborg but the X35 (throttle) was nice. Customer support stinks.

MS Sidewinder (gameport, forget the model number) was way too sensitive for me. Returned it the next day.

Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D (USB) is a great stick for around $35.00. So far it's held up great, but it does have some slop in the handle for turning the rudder. All in all a good stick. Easy to setup a profile.

Thrustmaster TopGun is a good stick too but the rubber boot kept breaking from the base after some use. I must say that the people from Thrustmaster are the best in support. I got a new TopGun after calling about the rubber boot breaking but after the second one broke it was time to move on. The stick has a heavy spring in it, very stiff but once the rubber boot breaks, it gets very sloppy. It also doesn't have a throttle.

CH CombatStick, ProPeddles and ProThrottle all USB, is the best I've had. The Peddles and Throttle are the best feel and the Stick is good but not the best. What makes this combo the best IMO is the ProThrottle which has software that makes older games like SDOE read my setup as a 6 axis, 32 button joystick, which means I can use my throttle, peddles and stick, and they work! I can also program my joystick buttons 32 of them for old sims. Very easy to use the profile, and program buttons. In newer sims like CFS2 and IL2 I can program up to 256 keys. The sensitivity is great in all flight sims I've flown, SDOE, Jane's WWII, IL2, Falcon 4.0, EAW, and CFS2. You can also use a button on the throttle as a mouse, the peddles have a toe brake too. CH is also very well made and has yet to feel worn out or sloppy. IMO CH is the best. And one more thing, the profiler doesn't use up the cpu's like most joystick profilers but you need to calibrate the stick with CH's calibration and not windows.

Himdog, I use the Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D. I really like it.

Could you explain how the Pro Pedals hook up to a system?

I found the CH web site very helpful and the tech questions base was really helpful.

I currently run my Wingman through the gameport. How does SDOE supprt the use of
the pedals? Toe brakes too?

I would like to add the Pro Pedals to my setup using the Wingman.

What other flight sim also work with them?
Janes WW2?

The CH ProPedals come in USB or Gameport but I would get the USB one. The ProPedals come with their own software to set up the Pedals. The ProPedals will work with other sticks like the Wingman, so you should be fine. But I did NOT use the ProPedals's software because I also got the ProThrottle (as well as the CombatStick) and the ProThrottle has a different software (it's the only device that has this software feature)which will let you setup your throttle, pedals and joystick as one device as a 6 axis/ 32 button joystick for use in older games, like SDOE and Jane's WWII fighters (see above post). These older games can not or they have trouble reading more than one device attached to your pc so this software makes the game see only one device but I have three devices attached. Now if patch .10 for SDOE comes out this should be fixed but right now, and I could be wrong (someone correct me if I am wrong) I don't think SDOE will read both your joystick and pedals. But again, maybe SDOE can read two devices but can not read three devices. I do know for a fact that SDOE can not read three devices! But again because I'm running the ProThrottle software so this doesn't effect me (don't want you running out to buy the ProPedals thinking they will work in SDOE or Jane's WWII). I can not use the toe brakes in SDOE, but in IL2 and CFS2 I can and toe brakes are very nice! I haven't tried in Jane's WWII with toe brakes so I don't know but I would say no I can not. Use www.pricewatch.com for the best prices, but know what you are buying because it is much harder to return it. If I had to choose between just one CH product(glad I didn't have to because all of their products are great), it would be the ProThrottle, the feel is great but the software that comes with it is the best. This is were must other joysticks/combo fall down. CH did their homework and it really shows.

SDOE always worked on my X-fighter stick, CH Pro throttle and Elite Rudder peddals. hell it worked fine with just the stick and pedals. i know brakes are not currently supported in SDOE but maybe it will in the future.

Not sure why it didn't work for you guys.
