Has anyone got a genuine merlin engine run sound ? I tried recording one recently at an airshow but theres crowd noises in the background which spoilt that opportunity.....it would be good to get a decent engine run sound for the Spitfire. IP: Logged |

I got a ton of them Dean, some are modified but they seem to fit the individual Spit. They were all conceived from Commando's great stereo wav for the Mustang, which was and is a genuine Merlin. I may put them ALL up at simfiles very soon...P IP: Logged |

I got some good closeup video recently of a Hawker Hurricane at an airshow here in New Zealand, he had a lot of trouble getting it to fire on all cylinders after about 5 minutes of cranking it finally came to life,a great sound, would really add some spice to SDOE, there were a lot of other noises though like loudspeakers etc so the sound was not suitable for our use. I find the stereo engine run for a single engined plane a bit ovedone. there's not many convincing engine sounds available yet for some reason. I have posted the mkV Spit engine start recently, but it is a bit brief owing to my having to edit crowd chatter as it fired up! ....at least it's the real thing IP: Logged |

Yep, there's nothing like the sound of a Merlin at full throttle. Sounds like what an aircraft should sound like.IP: Logged |

I have a new Merlin start recorded from the New Zealand Hurricane, it was its maiden start with no crowds or other background noise. Its pulled from a video and is just the right length with a couple of false starts too.IP: Logged |

Hi Commando are you a NZer too ? Have you got some engine run sound as well as the start? The idle sound is totally different to the character of the high speed sound, it would be good to get a cross section of startup, idle and high speed run. could you e.mail some wav files ? IP: Logged |

Dean, I ripped the sound from a video on the Museum website, I have software that allows me to record sounds from files you can't save. Its just a startup only with no full bore running, the full bore video was of a fly-by which is full of Doppler. Biggles3 , if you are serious about getting your dad to record the sound in flight in cockpit try to get a Stereo sound. Most video camera's have them so just get him to record a video, the camera can point at any thing even the floor, we just need the sound,(the full flight if poss inc startup and stop sounds). If you send the tape to me I can record the sound into digital from a video player as I did the Mosquito sound. I have the converter to allow me to play video camera tapes in a full player too so no need to degrade the sound with a transfer. Dean I will post the Hurri startup at simfiles. IP: Logged |
