while chatting w/ my flight instructor during the debriefing about some vibrations felt inflight he told me one thing I've never thought about: the vibrations produced by a damaged prop may cause the detaching of the engine from the ship itself, causing u know what... so the best thing to do is shutting off the engine and landing somewhere (talkin about the ultralight planes), or shutting off the engine and setting the prop to idle.
in SDOE we can set the prop to idle, but I think nobody ever thought about the engine detaching... well, there are a coupla planes that have this feature (like the Pe2) but I dunno if this is connected w/ the prop damage or just to the engine explosion...

the wildcat is designed to have the engine fall off and I also added this to the A-20 I did. you can see the wildcat in the dime project but the a-20 is still far from being released.

How did you do this Raz? Does a broken prop add damage to the engine over time? Or does the engine come off instantly?

I remember reading about one pilot who flew Hurries during the Battle of France. He had one side of the prop shot off (they were wood then) and started feeling huge vibrations but didn't know the source at the time. Then the vibrations stopped. It wasn't until he goosed the throttle that he knew the prop was indeed gone.

Sometime in 1945, one single Spitfire Mk.XIV was delivered to some French squadron. The mechanics had improperly reassembled the propeller and, on the first engine test on the ground, one propeller blade detached (notice there were 4 left!). The resulting vibrations were so strong the airframe was twisted and the plane could never be repaired. No Spitfire Mk.XIV ever flew under French colours

I just put the prop under the engine. You can add obhits to the prop and tell them to add damage to the engine. With the prop under the engine and the engine set and an object and not part of the plane the engine will fall off. Then just add some damage effect to the plane and your done. The Pe-2 has some of this but prop damage is not added.

I've tried to get updated prop info added to the game but it's not in yet. This would add real feathered props and blade damage. I've also asked for new gun flashes but this too has yet to be looked at.
