Just finished watching PT-109 and I'm itchin' to blast off a torpedo into a destroyer! If Mace can make a plane land/take off from water, surely we're not too far off...are we? IP: Logged |

I'd say it's possible, not easy but possible, and yes, as you say, we could easily make working torps from PT boats by making them rockets instead of bombs, but this is probably one for the future, fingers crossedIP: Logged |

You still have the problem of not starting over water....IP: Logged |

Would it not be possible to turn a "parking space"-worth of water immediately adjacent to the docks already ingame into dry land (painted blue) to overcome this? WM ------------------ Abbeville Field: Dedicated to the SDOE Experience. IP: Logged |

I've made a steerable boat, a german z40 class destroyer (using RoyOhBoy's excellent shell). However the problem I have strcuk is with AI. You can sail the boat but when you switch to a gun position AI takes over and the boat comes to a halt. This is due to the fact that water ops has aircraft (boats) with their gear up. Even if the gear is left down, AI cannot continue to make the boat move, although AI can do this with land vehicles. Never say never, but this project is on the back burner.cheers mace: IP: Logged |

Mace: Perhaps you could make each gunner to be also pilot, and to rotate the weapon with letters of the keyboard that are not those that move the ship, so that the gunner can manage the weapon and the movement of the ship at the same time. I have never experienced with these aquatic models, perhaps don't make sense my idea. ------------------ I./JG 27 Alle Messerschmitt bf109 IP: Logged |

I am too Pye. Even with land vehicles, the AI is not too bright at driving them all the time, although they drive ok when on autopilot setting. Imo, just getting some "driveable" ships out there floating on the water, even if the AI can't use them fully, is a great start! As for starting over the water, I'm sure by setting the boat/ship to start at an altitude of 1 foot and 1 mph speed in the mission editor would "cheat" the sim into thinking it'll start flying when it'll drop gently into the water shortly after mission start...but I haven't tried this... --------------- A.K.A Harman_5 IP: Logged |

I'll be completing the Ju-52 floaplane by the end of October, so I'll release an alpha version of the 'boat' mid-november.The boat starts on a plate only a few feet above the 'water'. This plate can be placed anywhere on the terrain. Autopliot can hold a heading and speed (max 36mph) but AI is the real 'bug'. cheers mace: IP: Logged |
