Would kinda neat to play with this piece of junk. Not your work. The real one was a waste of resources. Under powered. No forward firing guns. Total waste of resources.

would the real defiant have been a good fighter had they removed 2 of the turreted guns and mounted them facing forward in wings?

NOPE!

It was too heavy, and wasn't manouverable enough.

There were various attempts to build turret fighters, and none could escape the inevitable problem. A turret plus guns and all the equipment necessary to power it is heavy. On a bomber, this isn't a problem. On a fighter, the trade off just doesn't work.

The prospect of flying up alongside bombers and raking them with bullets was fine .... it was just far easier to do it with a Spitfire

Pity the gunner - if the electrical was hit the poor s.o.b. was stuck in the turret, no way out.
