Hello, I was just wondering if anyone is still working on, or has plans for the stalingrad terrain? I asked some other pilots online last night but they didn't know if it was still being worked on or if it was a dead project. It sounds like a fantastic terrain, that's why I was intereseted about what's going on with it. Thanks------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

Stalled project The base work is done and it needs the following:1. airfields 2. towns...this is the main project. Stalingrad city is pretty damn big! This the main reason for it not being completed. Its just way too much for the few of us to handle...(insert begging for help message here)Nat has some great ideas for the buildings' DM. Unfortunately, all of our visions will remain just that unless we get more heads working on it. IP: Logged |

Hey, I've got a copy of Red Barricades (old Historical Expansion for Advanced Squad Leader). It's very exact and you could probably use it to great effect since each hex on the map represents 40m from flat-to-flat.Wulfe190

W190, We have the terrain completed. What we'd need is someone to add the many buildings to the terrain. Go here to see what we have so far. http://paintshed.users1.50megs.com/ As you can see the Volga is in place and each black square is a city block. IP: Logged |

I've never modeled anything for SDOE, but I'm willing to help in anyway. As long is it isn't extremely hard, I'm willing to help you out. If there is anything I can do, please let me know or e mail me and tell me what I could do. I only have experience making graphics and websites, I own Paint shop pro 7,(not sure if that will help me any in SDOE). Well I'd love to do anything I could just let me know. Thanks. ------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

what Stalingrad needs... lots of enthusiasm and a small group of workers. It needs people willing to build lots of houses and also texture them to correct scale to fit the black areas on the pictures, terraced house, general industry buildings, those kinds of things. It also ned me to get off my ass and finish adding the water, hell knows how far I got in doing that, I think I was close to finished actualy, but it's a bare terrain, one that Diego and I put so much work into, in maney ways much more work has gone into Stalingrad than the finished Bavaria, because Stalingrad was one of the "learning" steps being taken, and lots of parts of the work were done maney times over from the beginning, it's a wonderful terrain that deserves finishing, but without extra help on 3D mofeling and texturing it will remain unfinished. Blacksheep, your offer to help is very much appreciated, but it realy needs people that are able to build and texture 3d models. I'd happily forgoe the advanced building DM I created just to be able to see the fished terrain, but we don't have maney builders with free time on their hands, so it'll get done when it's done I guess, I wish it was a simple matter to complete the terrin, but it's not, there's still most of the work to do. Would it be possible to use a 3D CAD program to do the buildings and such which can then be exported to the format that SDOE uses? Would doing blocks of houses, rather than individual houses, be a way of doing large cities? Just some questions.Wulfe190 ------------------ Throttle wide open and never lift IP: Logged |

Nat, I have AC3D, I've never been able to do anything usefull with it, but may be modelling buidings is somewhate easier that planes (I hope so anyway). So if you think that's any use, and you can send me an example and a very short explanation of what you need, I'll try my best. I don't have any soft to work correctly with textures though. hmm...modeling buildings shouldnt be that hard in my opinion...most buildings can be modeled by making a 6 poly box...now if u want exotic buildings...thats a different story!IP: Logged |

Ive been sat here for almost 4 years now playing SDOE and love it. Online is even better when my machine feels like staying online. Ive been doing webdesign for about 5 years and also worked for Lucas Arts on a product called Avaterra/Vzones whatever its called these days. Anyway my point is i know photoshop inside out along with other art packages. More importantly i can use 3d Max and have modelled a VW chassis at best. I can model and texture and mostly doing buildings for backdrops/virtual environments. So heres the deal........im offering help to forward the game i would say is the best ive ever seen. Now before anyone starts asking me to do this, that and the other can one of you project managers/coordinators email me to arrange possible work loads/projects as i guess you can all sympothise that even when your work load is down , it can change overnight to a frenzy of work needing to be done and as the ones with money attached ooverride the ones without id like to talk more indepth as to what i can realistically achieve with the limited spare time i get. Id have posted offers of help earlier but ive only just joined this Forum.IP: Logged |

Hell i wasnt trying to sound like a corporate 'yes' man by using such language Just thought id be formal in my offer:0 I forgot to add that i have a huge collection of WW11 books with loads of history/diagrams/documents of WW11 planes some colour schemes....not senough of them but thats no surprise! For instance i have one book called 'The Luftwaffe album' which contains allsorts on all the Luftwaffe aircraft, entry dates for service, Summarys of equipment and armament For instance the Fw 190 a-3/u7: Light high-altitude fighter with two MG 151/20E in wing roots. Tthat kinda stuff if its any help. In fact i think i can give you info on pretty much all WW11 planes. I started to cross referance alot of this to see how much this info conflicted but i kinda lost interest............still the infos there if anyone needs it.IP: Logged |

Well, there isnt really a person in charge of terrains around here. There are a few of us who get together to kick back a few and bust out a terrain or two Since this is Nat's baby, I'll refer you to him. He knows exactly what Stalingrad or any other terrain needs. We'd be most grateful if you joined us in our efforts. BTW, the standing offer to the volunteers is...you get to fly over all the cool betas first. Lets see...thats Stalingrad, Midway, Tobruk........ Diego also forgot to list Singapore LOLOK, this is my baby huh? yeah ok, it is/was But Diego, you can't duck out of it that easily.. you have the texture and the city map remember! lol GA, you're offer is great, and given how long Stalingrad has been in the pipline, we have no expectaions of time on the work at all, there's no rush, no time limits, no penalties, just like Rollerball (for those of us old enough to remember that film) OK, so whats needed. Detached houses, terraced house blocks, and some industrut buildings. Restrictions: The need to be very low poly, so they need to have detailed textures, but at the same time small textures, they need to be built to fit as close as possible to fit the black markings on the pics at the top, thats a 100% scale image of Stalingrad itself, so the buildings need to be built to 100% scale. So, what you need, well, you need Stalingrad terrain to start with, Diego, if you upload it to my FTP I'll setup an account for GA to use the Terrain Folder to d/l-u/l The hard part - making the buildings fit the markes areas, I don't think this will be simple, but if they aren't perfect fits, then close will do, the black areas will be removed once the buildings have been added. Diego, is there any possible way you can think of to give dimensions of the blocks, only rough, but say x ft wide by y ft long for terraces, anything like that? Well, like I said, your offer is very much appreciated, and the work isn't so much hard, as there being alot. When we get the terrain up to my FTP I'll get intouch with account details for you, and hopefully a better explination of whats needed, but feel free to mail me at any time.
