How difficult would it be to make some of the A/C static ground objects. What I’m thinking is that if we have a Lancaster or (and) a B-17 that is static we could line them up at a runway 10-12 deep and use them as an objective rather than just the airport. I do know someone made the Spit ground object but I don’t know how much work in involved. One of you guys that know poly count would probably have a better idea if this could work. The objective would be to have more detail in the bombing runs making bombing more interesting. On the other hand would this still be a FR hog and not be feasible??? Thanks, P IP: Logged |

Hi Psi,To make any a/c a ground object, just have the gas tanks be empty. Trust me it works cause I have done it. I put a squadron of 12 B17G's in a mission with a starting alt of zero and the game even lined them up on the runway for me. This may not be 100% of what you were looking for, but it is pretty close. ------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

I suppose if you remove all the flight properties and wing code etc, plus all the cockpit stuff, you could save a few fr's. Depends if you want to be able to 'man the guns' still. I don't think it is just the model that sucks FR. The code does too. Remove that, and things should work o.k. Worst case scenario....delete out the lvl 1 lods, and have a less detailed model..... Just for the hell of it once I deleted all the higher level lods, so the lancs only showed up at the lowest level. They were still flyable. I was experimenting. Well it helped the frame rate. UNTIL you put a bunch in the game. In other words its great if you just want one lanc (or whatever). But it sucks if you want a large group of them, your frame rate drops just as much as if they were normal planes. Its the code that hits the FR hard. Maybe if they are nonmanable shells with no FM or code, it would work. IP: Logged |

The type of ground object is different than say a stationary pland on the ground. When it blows up there aren't a bunch of wings and parts blowing up, it just disappears, that's the type of object I 'm talking about, could that be done???P IP: Logged |

I think OPS can do this... just copy parts of the aircraft and paste them onto a ground object... like start with the tent object and add all the main aircraft parts - then delete the tent LOD. This should work pretty quickly and the final product should not hurt the frame rate as much as the real aircraft would. The only part I forget how to do now is the textures... you might need to add the texture names to the sm file - or at least maybe copy in the texture file... details ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |

Thanks for the suggestions guys but Sv really had the one I was looking for. But even this would be beyond my capabilities not being a modeler or the like. I thought maybe one of the guys wanting to build something new for SDOE might want to take this up, thanks...P IP: Logged |

I will have a quick go with the B17 and see what I get. Should be easy enough to get rid of all the unwanted stuff!IP: Logged |

That would be great WTG I admire your fortitude. I think it would add a pinch of realism to the game, thanks, no rush P
