Here's an ideaUsing Limewire, we can share SDOE and Open Plane files just like sharing mp3 files! This would make it easy for people to post changes to files, allow developers to share files they're working on, and connect the community even better. So far, I do know that- It's Open Source, based on the Gnutella network Lime wire is NOT spyware It's free There are no restrictions on file size and you can share zips, exe (installers and self extracting zips), and many other file types It suports download resuming Good idea, Bad idea? I'll install it and post some files so that those who want to try can grab acouple of items.

Ok, for a test I posted 3 zip files. They all start with SDOE and are zips. If you have limewire, do a search on SDOE and see if they show up. Files posted SDOE Beeperv12.zip SDOE GroundCrew.zip SDOE hi_vis_tracers.zip IP: Logged |

Jug,I've had Limewire for a few months now, it is the best P2P program out there that I've found. I'm so glad that it's popularity is beginning to increase, I told all of my friends to switch to limewire after napster blocked songs. You have a really good idea, I'll try and find the files you placed on Limewire, and try and download them. I'll ket you know how it goes. ------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

Jug, the problem with using a Gnutella-based client (I've been experimenting with Limewire, BearShare and several other such clients in the last few months) is that they have a limited "network horizon".That is, one machine can only see a portion of the whole P2P network at any one time (typically a maximum of 10,000 machines). This allows the Gnutella -based P2P network to run smoothly. If one client was able to see every client on the network at that time (possibly hundreds of thousands of other clients and theoretically millions), the whole thing would slow to a crawl. As limiting as this sounds, it's not a problem for most people because the most popular subjects for d/l and u/l, in this case pirated MP3s and porn, are so sought after with the masses that the files migrate quickly from network horizon to network horizon so that the files are rapidly spread across the whole network, and not just pieces of it. I fear that SDOE files would just not be popular enough to migrate across the whole network. If they don't, then the chance of another SDOE user being on the same network horizon as you at the same time as you are on is very much a hit and miss affair, and with the huge numbers of Gnutella clients now online, I suspect we are slowly edging towards "Powerball" odds (an exagerration, but you get my point). Your idea is excellent Jug, but I think you have to look for a more direct P2P client than the Gnutella-based ones.Even ICQ offers P2P file sharing, so as a last resort it could be used.I'll see if I can dig something up for you.
