As part of the work I'm doing for the Crew (Yes I'm one of them), we need help from some experienced people trying to create / track down mismatche causes. In addition, I think I've found a cause for lag and dropped packets for people with hi-speed connections. This problem is more than likely a windows settng issue. The only thing is, it will require people that feel ok about editing the registry. You can assist with confirming my suspicions right now however. If you are experiencing lag problems AND have a high speed connection (DSL, cabe, etc), you'l need to get in an on-line game, back out while the others are still playing and report the PING # on the server page of the server they are on. Had this problem with my ADSL. Lagged on all sites. Fixed it with a Windows update for IE 5.5. No Regedit required, it updates the Windows VM. Lagging has for the most part stopped and my attitude towards my fellow man, especially my ISP, is much better. You find this by clicking on Tools on the Menu bar then Windows Update and then downloading the Critical update, dated 2 Aug, 2001, from St. Bill. Best of all, it's free and anytime you get something from MS for free, grab it and run.[This message has been edited by Sunray (edited 08-29-2001).] IP: Logged |

Sunray- what make have fixed it was MS changing the registry settings for yo during the upgrade.THe problem MAY be due to the TCP window size being too small. This was covered recently in an article. W2K has a noticeable problem, and from what i read, MS has no plans to change those default settings. Depending on whether you use 98, 98SE, WinME, or W2K, MS has taken a different route on each one. Mow, about the mismatches . . . . IP: Logged |

Hello, I'm on cable, and currently using IE4.0, so I can do your test, upgrade to IE 5.5 and do it again to see the difference. I'm not confident with editing the registry myself but other than that I can help. SailorIP: Logged |

When I was in Tech Support at Wonderware, occasionally we would have to write tech notes that dealt with specific registry changes. The had to be done right because we didnt want to create additional calls... Once you come up with the specifics let me know. I'll see if I cant crank it out in a step by step tech note form....------------------ Snickers =FC= Thou shalt maintaineth altitude, lest the earth rise up and smite thee. IP: Logged |

DJH, are you sure you want the ping to the server? Wouldn't you want the ping to the host? ALso about editing the registry, you can just make a registry patch once you get it all figured out and then people just have to double click and say yes to apply. No need for detailed instructions.
