Well now that I have the new machine up and running, I seem to have two recurring problems. Any help appreciated...1) the mouse buttons seem to work "randomly" both under 1.5 and 1.5.2.9. Basically you'll hit them and they might fire. For instance if I hit the left button while flying a 190, the light guns might decide to fire, or might not. The right mouse button on the 20's is even more tempermental. Most of the time it won't fire, and then when it does, it won't stop until you're out of ammo. Meanwhile using the space bar for the light guns works perfectly. 2) there are a number of several-second cut-outs when playing. It appears to happen when loading up new model data, or the textures for them. For instance it often happens when I first fire my guns (or someone at me) and it very often happens when explosions first appear. Any ideas on either? Maury IP: Logged |

No solutions to me.1) I seem to experience the problem you have with your mouse with my joystick from time to time. 2) Same hangs on for me. I even tried to enable SDOE as a Win98 program but it doesn't change anything. Though firing sequence and explosions locks up should be related to patch .29 /STef IP: Logged |

Weird. The funny thing is that it only happens in combat, it always works fine (after pausing to load up the tracer graphics) when I start out. quote: 2) Same hangs on for me. I get the same problems in 1.5 as well though. Maury IP: Logged |

-make a shortcut to the sdoe app -go into the properties for the shortcut -go to compatibility tab -turn on run in compatibility mode -select windows 95 compatibility layer. This got rid of the pauses for me in the last release version of SDOE but not the new beta version. TS ------------------

Thanks TS, let me give that a try. Anyone know why this would work? Is this something to do with the event handling? Wait, I don't have a compatibility tab, is it under one of the buttons? Maury IP: Logged |

Got it! You have to install SP2 and then run a dll - what a pain in the butt. Anyway you're right, it started working instantly. It's running perfectly under Win2K now, thanks!Maury IP: Logged |

Glad it worked for you too, someone emailed me the instructions awhile back If you look in the various compatibility updates that were released on the windows update site they specifically are made for certain games. One actually listed "Fighter Squadron". I think they add code into the O/S to specifically check for certain games and run workaround code to fix the problems. Could be the new beta version of SDOE is not detected as the broken version of sdoe by the compatibility layer so we still get the pauses in that one. TS IP: Logged |

Ahhhh. I'll write MS and see if I can track down the person in question. If so maybe we can figure out what he did and put it right into the patch itself. Oddly the gun problem IS fixed in the patch, so it seems like it's fixing one thing and not another. Not sure but I'll keep working on it. Maury

Stef: use Windows Update to get Service Pack 2. This installed real easy on my machine, although it was 20 megs of downloads (thank god for 1Mbps DSL!).When that's installed go to the MSDN site and do a search on "windows compatibility". The first listing that comes up (which is NOT the first item in the list, it's about half way down the page!) has instructions for turning on the tab. I just wish it had the tab right on the app instead of the shortcut. Maury IP: Logged |
