Sounds like drivers to me. Download the latest driver from the maker's site then
re-calibrate.

Maybe itīs an patch-specific problem:
Using the latest patch imho you should have the following line in the enine-section of your keyboard.inp:

inpThrottleAnalog = JoystickSlider1 : 0

I have a sidewinder 2 also and my throttle works fine. Had a problem with the Patch but added : inpThrottle analog = joystckslider 1:0 and everything works fine.

Ditto, for my sidewinder, version 1 (I think) USB [non-forcefeedback]. Hey, is yours nonf-f? If so, how do you find the spring return tension on yours? I got bloody tired of the force required to keep the stick slightly off centre when trying to nudge over while lining up a shot, so I took it apart and yarded out the springs, which are fearsome stiff. I kludged it up with some foam at the bottom of the stick to keep it centred (without the springs it flopped right over) and now it's much nicer to handle. I'd like to replace the springs properly with some of the same size but lighter gauge, but I suppose they're a nonstandard size...
