It may be the smoke, but it looks like the carrier has vertical wavy striped camoflage on her island. Hornet was the only "Yorktown" to carry such a scheme. As far as I've been able to tell, neither Yorktown or Enterprise ever wore anything other than solid shades of grey (maybe even dark blue in Enterprise's case). Wasp (the first one, not the later "Essex")carried a similar wavy hull scheme to Hornet, but she was a class of her own.

That said, this is great. A simple skin change will give us Yorktown, Enterprise, or Hornet! Now if we only had the "Illustrious" class I might be inclined to open a new site called "RNAS Harkness"!

Just sharing my naval knowledge! Great stuff!!!

When Jeeves starts to nag, it usually ends up in Nat making something Russian, so here comes another Ruskie bird was my thought when I saw the title of this post

------------------

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunwards I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds
and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there.

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
my eager craft through footless halls of air.

THe wings are thick because the dauntless had thick wing roots. The attachments had to be able to support
1. wing folding mechanisms
2. dive brakes
3. bombs
4. landing gear
5. G load from pulling out of a near vertical dive

#2 is heavier than what most people would expect.

DJ, you're 90% correct The SBD-5 doesn't have foldeing wings, they had to turn the plane at a slight angle to get it up and down the carrier alevators BUT, the Daunt does have thick wings, infact this model is built from high detail 3 ways and I specificaly used a frontal view template to get that part right.

So, yes it should have thick wings I didn't know that Razer had done a model for Jedi.. but then, I'm flying a Dauntless now because I built it, not because I downloaded one somewhere, not a criticism, but the first post I ever got from jeeves was on 16 March 2000 asking me to work on the skin for her, and obviously it was being worked on a long time before that. Fact is, someone having a model or a beta somewhere doesn't mean it's going to get built, everyones busy and not everything can get done, hell I'm so busy I can't believe I took 2 days off to build this! So, I probably wont get to to 100%, I never have finished a plane to 100% but it will be pretty good and with a little help we'll soon have a real release of the very long awaited SBD-5 Dauntless

Hehe if I had known someone wanted to take up the reigns, I could've saved you a little work maybe...

Just let me know if you want it. With what I've got coming up in RL, I suspect you'll be able to get it finished quicker than me...
