CTD problem Psi reported below has been fixed, and the update is reposted.

Get it at simfiles. It's a self extracting zip. Just run it and browse to the fighter squadron folder and it will place all of the files in the correct place

IMPORTANT:

The mission editor will now display all terrains curently available for download. However you can only write missions for the terrains actually installed on your system.
Choosing a terrain not installed will not cause any problems. The program will simply tell you it can't find the folder, and you can choose a different terrain.

Same here Jug. Unfortunately I didn't backup my latest startup.ppf but did have one from a few months ago that got me going again. With yours I would either CTD with 1.5 or lock up with an error message in the patch.

Could it be the empty line spaces? Probably not but the original didn't have any.

Fix has been posted. My HUGE apologies guys. I grabbed the interim file instead of the final one and it was missing the header statements.

You can get the new file at simfiles. Jerry I'll send it to you.

DJH, why did you change the radar range button from "R" to "Alt R". "R" was the out of the box original command. Did you change any other original ones we should be aware of?

Edit: I just discovered that "C" now fires guns instead of toggling off target info. Why?

I didn't chnage these, all I did was add the new values to the file posted last December.

The ones I changed were the new commands that conflicted.

As many people have been using this files since December and there were no complaints, I didn't want to mess with the rest.

C doesn't fire all the guns- just the cannon. Space still fires all of the guns.

Shift C brings up the target info.

I looked at the original keyboard command that came with my game. R changed the range on the target map back then, and this was changed to alt R. Alt M is supposed to bring up the radar overly in both versions.

This brings up a question on this file. Many people have been using this keymap for months, but it does change the original mapping. Here's where I need input from everyone. Should I

a) leave it alone?
or
b) restore the original key mapping and remap the the commands this conflicts with to other keys?

Thanks for the input Jerry, I don't think anyone brought this up when the updated keymap was released in December.

Anyway- feedback on this is greatly appreciated!

FWIW,

I prefer to use the "r" key to change my radar settings, Alt-r is too hard during combat.

Thanks,

Evidently I didn't download the updated keymap. I've just used the original one and made manual changes for the new features as they are added.

I doubt if I am the only one not using the December one, especially since it has not been referred to as a "must have" or "needed" in any standards. I doubt if most people, especially newbies, are aware of it.

I see problems arising from this. I really question the wisdom of changing key commands that we have been using for three years. Adding commands yes - for new features, but not changing exising commands....especially for people who have their joystick profiles set up to respond as certain key commands. With my Sidwinder Precision Pro I have 16 programable buttons and don't want anyone buggering up my profile.

If I'm alone in this then so be it. I'll change the new one back when I encounter problems with the new settings. I just think that this Sim is getting damn complicated for anyone but the passionate fanatic who has hours to figure these things out....and things like this sure don't simplify matters.

i think, Keep the keymap for the original keys as printed in the manuals

new commands, you can remap as you see best.
because it's a good idea you are doing.

-------
aside, after my reinstall,
following the proceedure and links your great newbie website, (DJH)

I found out that getting online in the server list showed only 3 servers in 1.5.1 lobbies.

ie.. not seeing cal 12, so i downloaded your self extracter and , voila !!,
hope every other new install is not getting that, as they will not be seeing the vital lobbies and won't realise what the problem is,
So thanks for making that, and releasing it with good timing for me

That lead me to think, and after reading in another ongoing thread about getting people online.
We should use the Media/gui/art/network.bmp as an message board.
for example:
At the moment it reads
Plane pack 6.0 or pp6.1 and then shows a picture of a bf109 in a battle.
we should add more text ie.

All Online players usually meet in Californial 12 Lobby or
post on www.fightersquadron.com forum for a game.

uhhhh....Jug....ahhhhh....this is real wierd but my right arrow for aileron trim doesn't work with the new keyboard.ini. It works fine with my old keyboard.ini. I've checked the script and they both look the same. Left arrow works fine in both. Any thoughts?

(Really need that right trim for your FW-190A beta FM.)

Remember also that some key funtionality was changed with the 1.5 patch (CTL J vs CTL E is the first one that coomes to mind as I use it a _lot_ ) Point is you cant blindly stick with the ones out of the box.... (Although I prefer R to alt R also...)

Hey Jerry, I have the same jstick as you but I could never get my buttons sorted out. Would you mind sharing your profile files so I can try and get it figured out? It would be nice to get my setup working a little more like a HOTAS.

Thanks,

Werner

Snickers, 1.5 came out within weeks of the game release almost 3 years ago. So we have been using those commands for a long time and everyone uses them (who flys without at least 1.5?) I'm talking about changing keyboard mapping for commands that a lot, if not most, of us are using today.

Werner, on the way.

Good Grief,

I figured I'd be opening a can of worms by doing this. I just didn't know there'd be so many.

The importrant thing is, all of this is now coming to light and can be straightened out. Once that's done, we'll have an 'Official' starting point for development from here on in.

Thanks for the other terrain names Argon. I hadn't seen any info on no mans land for a while, so I thought it was dropped, and MV world is a new one on me.

Are there links to those 2 terrains I can add to FSCentral?

Please be patient guys and we'll get the bugs worked out. Should only take about a week (hopefully )

Hey the sooner this gets all sorted, the better! It would be a good idea to post what exactly you have down tho... That way we can add stuff if its not there.

NoMansLand is in the OP-WWI Plane Pack 2 only... MVWorld is the "secret" terrain that was packed into SDOE. You also forgot SnowyDover in there aswell I think...

About the radar, who the hell uses radar in SDOE?!?!? I cant remember the last time I actually turned that thing on..

I have a copy of No Mans Land if you cant find something to link to...

Speaking of terrains, wasn't there going to be a "Grand Canyon" More, more I'm *still* not satisfied...

We should stick to the original as of 1.5 as much as possible, or someone should do a keymap file for all changes each time someone changes something. I too have many of the 1.5 keys programmed - already ran into the 'C' vs Shift C problem, and had to search the file itself to find out why C wasn't working. I've been with this from the beginning, so I knew where to look - if I'd just gotten this a few weeks ago, it would likely be uninstalled now. In the keyboard.inp I have now, C was changed to something for lights...I just deleted it, I don't need no lights....and reverted C back to it's original state.

I was looking through the Somme terrain file, too, and noticed similar problems with the names.ppf file ( a new one, for terrains ). I also have Pacific. The names file for Somme doesn't have the Pacific info, and the one for Pacific doesn't have Somme info. I spent a hour copy/pasting, and hope I have it right, but Somme sits uninstalled for now. We really could use a centralized information point for all the needed ini files like the .ppf's and .inp files that can be kept up to date...but it means everyone working on different things must submit changes to that central so that the files can be kept updated. It can be 2 or 3 people...heck, I could probably even do one, like startup or something, because it would be a bit of work and responsibility for one person.

It's great you are trying to do this, DJH - we just all need to cooperate with ya.
