This is version 1.0 so be kind with any comments.

Proposed as a replacement for the aging Heinkel He 115, the Ju-88C seaplane could be used in a variety of roles, which included torpedo bombing, mine laying and search & rescue. More importantly it has an effective 'real' water take off and landing system.

The Ju-88C seaplane carries a new type of torpedo that simulates a magnetic influence or proximity detonator. The advantage of this type of torpedo is it can be used against any ship in SDOE because it does not rely on below waterline hull contact.

A terrain-covering seaplane landing zone has been include which allows this seaplane to land / take off at any time in the 'open' sea and most rivers or lakes. If other planes / objects fall over this zone they hit the water and are destroyed. Features:

*Effective 'real' water take off and landing system.
*Weapons include torpedoes, rockets and parachute sea mines.
*Two animated crew. Pilot's head moves insync with stick position and navigator's head tracks targets.
*Crew hatch with extending / retracting ladder.
*Night lights which can be switched on /off via the aircraft load out or a keystroke command.
*Incorporated retractable beaching gear.
*Engine exhaust pipes, float shadows, antenna wire, 2 x 20 mm and 2 x 37 mm cannons.
*Included an animated downed pilot and friendly agent in zip.
*Supports up to 1024 x 1024 aircraft 'skins'.
*1.5.2.9 'patch' compatible.

Please read the 'Readme' and 'Seaplane_Ops' files. Junkers Ju-88C Seaplane (878k) which includes fifteen training missions available at:

Mace, you are truly amazing. I have all of your sea aircraft, and I must tell you, they have become my favorite planes to fly in WWII SDOE. But this latest plane, the Ju 88c is the best one yet. The originality and innovation is unbelievable, I couldn't believe that you are able to land in the water, lower a ladder and pick up a downed pilot. Everything about your latest aircraft is unbelievable. Thank you, Mace, for making airplanes for this game.

I flew two of the night missions yesterday, the bomber intercept and the mine laying. VERY cool. I have three questions for you though mace, first of all how come I can't F5 to the ship (I wanted to take screenshots of it), secondly what's the best way to use those mines to sink the ship - when I flew the mission and checked alt-v it said the ship was moving at 4mph so I plopped the mines in front of the ship and watched them float down, but nothing happened when they landed in the water. Thirdly, did the Ju-88C Seaplane actually see service (even in prototype form) or was it purely a concept plane?

Thanks,

Werner

Thank you guys for all those kinds words.

To Werner: I'm able to F5 to the freighter on both my PC's, so that issue is an odd one. The parachute sea mines are non-explosive and try to mimic real mine laying where the aircraft has departed the scene long before any ship turns up. Maybe when we get moving ships it would be an interesting weapon to redevelop. The Ju-88c was a proposal and never saw active service although some work was done on the floats.

Werner, have you got "Allvehicles = 1" set in your sdemons.ini file? This option allows you to F5 to static objects and even control their guns if they have any.

Great work Mace, getting it now...

Edit: got it, this is pure genius!

From the 'ReadMe' file

*You will need to add the following line to the startup.ppf file in your SDOE Media folder. This can be done using wordpad or notepad.

"aircraft/weapons/PXtorpedo.sm"
"aircraft/weapons/paramine.sm"

(Vahnatai also check if these files are in the media/aircraft/weapons folder)

*You also need to add the following commands to your keyboard.inp file. (located in the Fighter Squadron directory) You can edit keyboard.inp using notepad, wordpad, word, etc. In the 'Other flight controls' section add:

cmdHookToggle = O
cmdLightsToggle = V

PLEASE NOTE sometimes such commands are not registered by the game engine so you will need to experiment with the letter used and the position of the command in the keyboard.inp file.

(Aladar maybe change the position of cmdHookToggle = O in the keyboard.inp file)

cheers mace:

Harman - that's probably it, I should go check that setting.

Mace - I asked about the explosiveness of the mines because the AI 88 managed to get that ship smoking very heavily, and I wasn't sure how. Regardless, the night missions you included with the plane are loads and loads of fun. Seeing that tracer fire arc through the air is incredible!!
