Damn, is anyone going to respond to my post!!!!! You know I bought this game when it came out in the stores and went online right after, I have followed all the changes, can someone at least respond?? I have concerns just like anybody else, if I feel that they are not even being heard, what the hell point is it to even play online, everyone is so bloody concerned about development instead of refining the game, NO ONE IS PLAYING THE GAME. I love new developments but hell lets acknowledge general discussion and maybe convey discussion of the PBY to say...PROJECTS.

I'm sorry but I'm getting, once again perturbed with the SDOE community...

I often try to get friends of mine to get involved and they love the Idea of it, but when I try to explain what they need..by the time they understand, development has left them and ME in the dust. Online play is very hard these days and I think dead in the water,(compared to what it used to be), PLEASE READ MY POST FROM THIS MORNING ENTITLED

COMMUNITY LEND ME YOUR EARS.

Sincerely and with love,

Sturm Spieler

Sturm, its summer, people are away on vacation, and even those who post may not have the time to play right now. Take me for instance, I post at work on breaks and at lunch, I'm gearing up for a move so between that, regular family commitments and work I have no time to fly. Things will get back to normal a little more in the fall, I'm sure.

This sort of discussion has been had before...

There comes a point where you have to decide whether 'control' of the community is either possible or desirable. People will make of this game what they will.

I live in the UK....anybody in the states going to mail CD's overseas...for free?

nope

I download on a 56k modem....and I have managed so far.

But lets look at the ONLINE STANDARD.

As far as I recall, this has not changed for some time. Please do not confuse developers ideas and beta's with the standard. There is a load of stuff out there, but you don't need it all. If no-one is playing with a standard setup online, then this is the issue now, not the development of new ideas.

Sturm,

I REALLY have the same feelings with you and I once posted a note about how hard to find someone for online play in :
http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005243.html

But one thing you have to concern is these are summer days and most ppl are on holiday. I believe ppl will begin to play this game online during the long winter nights. So be patient and wait for summer to end.

I _did_ respond to your earlier post. Am I to take it you want no discussion of aircraft under development in the general forum at all? I am sorry you think of me as a nobody (you apparently feel that way since you felt no one responded to your post). I will be more than happy to move any discussion of the PBY, P59, P38J/L and DIME off of this board. Period.

Funny thing is, I liked your idea. Out of curiosity, why did you pick the PBY? Why not the Ju52 or Ju87t or FW190??? All of these have come upr recently but you picked the PBY.

pant-pant-pant-snickers, thank you, just pant-pant-having one of those days!!!! I know it's summer but jeez!!!! I picked the PBY because it got 20 responses to my one from you!! I have all kinds of things that are keeping me busy as well, but what people fail to understand is if we got a bit more organized it would SAVE TIME. As it is I have to read up and tweak and get the latest..blah blah blah..that takes time. Instead of getting online and going for it. One more thing this is not a flame..I am not using any profanity or am I targeting anyone in particular, AND my comments are not without the best of intentions for everyone. So don't mistake my being passionate about wanting to get some dialouge going about what I think is a serious issue. You know I NEVER am an @#$%hole, just concerned about the game...now lets get to talking about the game.....and enough about my manners which I consider just fine.

LOVE

Sturm

p.s. As far as sending CD's I would be willing to send a token amount of $ to whoever sent the CD, to cover postage, etc.
The CD's would not go out that frequently, and I am not advocating not downloading, to use a double negative. Hell I trust you guys to send a few bucks, quartely say.

Sturm, how different is your post from snickers' PBY thread, really?

Snickers' was an appeal for assistance:

"I need a volunteer for this because it is _way_ out of my league.... Anyone?"

Yours was remarkably similar. You have an idea, but you don't have the ability to achieve your goal so you're... looking... for... support.

"Wait a minute, I'm no expert but all the talk seems to be about how long it would take to download...is that right? Well couldn't certain terrains, (if your machine could handle it), be that big but just PUT IT ON A CD TO MAIL TO PEOPLE."

With all due respect if the PBY thread belongs in Projects, it should be moved there right after yours is.

Careful now, when my kitchen utensils start talking to each other I tend to get a little jumpy.

You know, the funny thing about this is that I'm a recent return, I'm really pleased at the new things coming down the pike, I think the pace has been pretty good,

and...

I'm one of those that really want to help, but I don't have programing skills, or a lot of extra time... but I DO have a cable connection and a CD burner. I suppose I'd have to talk to my internet provider before someone emails me a LARGE download, and I can do that (haven't yet, though). Another thing I can do is download one of those magnum Opus' from a website, then burn it onto a CD and send it to someone without cable.

And, yes, Wakeup, I'd send you one, because of your contributions, and because you're in the UK, and when my forefathers went there with Billy the Conqueror, they liked the place! I'd send one to France, Sailor sent me a CD, and I'm very grateful! I'd send one to Greece, I used to live there, I'd send to Germany, if I couldn't live in the USA (or maybe Canada) I'd try to live there, I'd send to Italy because I had fun when I was there, ditto Spain...

Sorry, it's the fumes off the exhaust of the Taube, it's got me

But since I'm on the edge of my seat for the re-packaged Bavaria, maybe a similarly treated Smolensk, for Stalingrad and (?)Tobruk, if I can help, lemme know!

V/R,

Chaps

Sturm,

I have been working on an update CD- and on solving the online file issue (me and several other people).

We are going to be testing our idea with a small file in a closed group first to make sure it works. No use getting people excited if it's not possible. All I can say is - ask Werner what he thinks of the concept.

As far as the update CD goes- this is why all of a sudden you're seeing posts about everything being changed to self extracting zips. This is something I'm doing for the upadted CD and came out as a result of our discussion on revamping the way the on-line std update is handled. I have some friends that just got the game testing out my update CD idea on a few files first.

WTG- I think you forgot that my plan is to mail them for a small price in the US AND post the .iso images so somenone with a CD burner in Australia or Europe can do the same thing. Heck, I even encourage people with HTML expertise to translate the words into other languages and create one of their own. (Something I learned from the Linux community).

This has taken a while as the interface took longer than I wanted, I didn't like the process needed to install files, and I got too overambitious at first (I was actually trying to include all of the available skins- think that makes me a candidate for a funny farm )

Hang on guys, the wife is gone ALL weekend, much will get done on this.

Sturm Spieler am I understanding you correctly, you want no plane update post in the General forum?

The SDOE General forum is for anything that has to do with SDOE. Complaints as well as plane updates and such will be here. That is the way it was, it is now, and will always be.

No, no, no, Hawk....I am not suggesting anything like that, my comment about the PBY was just used as an example...I truthfully don't care what's posted on General. Everyone just needs to relax.

Peace and love
