Here's how thi came about- I have 2 machine, onewith a 32MB TNT2, and the other with an older 16MB PCI TNT.

I use the older machine for OPS cuz OPS crashes on a machine using DX7 or later and detonator drivers. Even then, it acts funky with older drivers & DX.

I saw a Number 9 16MB Savage4 for $18 and figured- why not? (for the older machine)

Installed DX8, and the board with the latest reference drivers. The framerates are 2.5 times higher than the TNT. It gets 23-30fps in the new P-51D flying about 150 ft above the deck (800x600). This is on a machine with 64MB of ram and a 333 Celeron. THe picture is much nicer than my TNT2 on the other machine and transparent parts look better.

OPS works better too.

I thought this chipset was supposed to suck?

Not a bad performance increase for the price, and it has hardware DVD decoding.

Actually I always heard that the savage 4 was pretty good.

But any card that doesn't have the fastest framerates ever, when its released is branded sucky in the world of vid cards it seems.

Its cool that the $18 paid off.
