Today and Saturday the Lexington, KY airport Aviation Museum has a B-24 and a B-17. The B-17 has not arrived yet. They will be there until 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Open to walk-in tours $7 and Rides for $350 per person.

Then on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. just 20 miles away at the Frankfort KY airport (Capital City Airport) they are having a free airshow. They will have a

P-40 and a Yak-7

Taking my digital camera for lots of Pictures. I checked out the B-24 (The Dragon and his Tail) today.

I took a ride in a Stearman model 75 Bi-plane. Just wanted to see what an open cockpit Bi-plane would feel like. Man that thing can turn on a dime. No stunts, just some steep banked turns, lazy 8's and a few dive - pull up - dive - pull up maneuvers to show the difference in the g force.

I already have some great pictures from the Stearman ride and of the B-24. I will post some on Sunday after I see the P-40 and Yak-7 and hopefully the B-17.

Ronin, hope I see you there. I am going out of town right now and will go straight to the airshow in the morning.

Cool!
I wish I'd known that earlier, I work a couple of miles from the Lex. Airport I would've gotten "sick" this afternoon! I'll definetly go in the morning though. I can probably make my way over to Frankfort tomm. as well but I really want to see the B-17 again, I saw one the last ime it was here about 6 years ago, never seen a B-24!( or a P-40 or a Yak).

I'm afraid I can't afford the ride though, just walking through will be good enough!

Mudshark:

Thanks for the pics! I was laying brick in my backyard and couldn't make the show! However, it was really cool having that B17 passing overhead all day long as it cruised from Frankfort to Lexington and back. It seems that its route was to pass over my house (Lexington) on its way south, come back and circle overhead and then head on into Frankfort!

Gave me lots of excuses to take breaks!

I stayed long enough to watch the '17 take off the first time. I stood right at the barrier as close as I could possibly get to it, watching that big plane turn those four engines over one at a time was a wonderful experience, sent chills up my spine! When the pilot punched them up from idle they absolutley roared!! The P-40 never made it to Frankfort due to the clouds/haze that hung around all day but it was still pretty interesting there, especially if you like helicopters. I wish we would get decent airshows here, I remember as a kid the Blue Angels did what seemed like regular shows at Bluegrass Field, I guess Thunder over Louisville is the place to go but that's way to big a crowd for my tastes!
