It's raining P-51's! (see Razer's post)

This is a newer version of the modified FM with a couple of new twists.

New Features:

Self extracting zip, just point it to your Fighter Squadron folder!

New fast prop texture (thanks Tailslide)

Newer version of the Louis IV skin, reduced from the 1024 version. Also, inside your P51d folder you'll find a hi res texture folder, copy the tif in this folder to the texture folder if you want to use 512x512 textures (go to the 26th Air Corps site for the 1024)

Fixed:
Nose section oops fixed

FM:
Added Rubber property to tires, she doesn't slide as easy.

Slowed down the low speed acceleration.

Adjusted roll rate a little more,

Moved COG back

Major time spent changing the prop to get the desired FM characteristics.

Weight added for bomb mounts

Weight assigned to propellers, has more torque.

Get her at simfiles

On the Hunt!

Just flew it a few times, there are some things to report.

At 10,000 feet going about 230 - 240 I banked left not really hard but fairly tight. I spun out of control went into a nose dive and could not pull out. I tried pulling up hard and easy, but when I pulled up hard I spun a lot, when I pulled up easy it had little to no effect. ended up splattering on the ground.

Banked right hard at about 230 and spun out of control, but when I banked right at a moderate level I turned fine.

Take off is still nice and smooth. but when banking left, even very easy, I loose control. BTW my stick is a logitech wingman extreme.

Climb rateis still very nice as well.

Thanks, this is really all that's left on the FM is to get the COG right. The problems you stated are related to the COG and won't require much work at all to change.

I would like some more feedback on this from others too.

One thing in the Mustang- when you go into a spin DO NOT TRY TO PULL THE NOSE UP. The real spin recovery was to put the ailerons in neutral, get the nose DOWN, then apply full oposite rudder, when the nose is pointed down the plane will almost fly itself out of the spin. Doing anything else in the D will increase your problem- rudder ,ailerons, etc will promote the spin until the nose is down.

I've purposely put this plane into a spin to test this several times and it works. But you lose anywhere from 4,000-10,000 feet in the process! The B is much nicer about this issue as it doesn't have the fuselage tank.

Give me more feed back people, and I'll try having another release out by Saturday morning so you can play with it on the weekend.

Considering the amount of griping in the past about the P-51D fm- betwen the 2 new fm releases the amount of feedback has been pretty slim

Thanks for the tip. I had no idea that was the way to get out of a spin. I'll give it a shot next time I fly.
