I have had SDOE for a very long time but I've only recently installed it. I am about to embark on a massive download binge from the various websites that support this sim. I'd like to know the answers to two questions from the veterans of the FSIC Forum.Question 1. Once I download the various add-on plane, terrain, and ground vehicle files how do I intergrate them into the game. I don't see any place to put them. Do I make new folders? Help me before I get into something that I can't figure out. Question 2. What aircraft would be the best to download first? I am a fan of any TOP in WW II. Chris, AKA Wulfe

Hello, I first reccomend getting the patches. 1.5 and then 1.5.2.9. I made the mistake of downloading a ton of planes, then when I went to download the patch I could not install it because I had corrupted the SDOE directory, plus with the patches you will be online compatible so you can play online against others. The 1.5 patch is easy to download, it self installs, the 1.5.2.9. is a little trickier but easy with directions. Check out Archer's website here http://www.geocities.com/archersweb/FSTips.htm and follow the directions on his page in order and to the letter. That is exactly what I did, and SDOE is running beautfully. If you have any other questions post them on here. Everyone is very helpful and knowledgable------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

The best thing you can do is unzip your downloads to a neutral folder and read the readme. All the non-beta and many of the beta's come with good readmes. Follow the instructions carefully, especially the ones where you add lines to the startup files. Then intall and test them one at a time. Don't do multiple installs. And post lots of questions. Blacksheep,I went to the website you recommended. I've already installed the 1.5 patch. I didn't see the 1.5.2.9 patch though. Is it included within the Planes update file or the Nations file? Wulfe

go to link in my signature. Theres a link to the 1.5.2.9 patch and NationsV2 there. There is also a very good forum string going on in the WW1 section of the forum here about installing everything. Very basic assumes no computer knowledge. Its something like "if you need help to play WW1 - please post here" The last topic covered was 1.5.2.9 My preferred install method is game,(fly a plane once don't know why), 1.5, NationsV2, 6.0, 1.5.2.9, then 6.1 into its own new folder in the new Openplane folder that you will be creating with 1.5.2.9 This way you can return to 6.0 or use 6.1 depending on how things shape up with 6.1 or any other par file that you want to place in the game. ------------------ FS_WW1_ONLINE_STANDARD_-_get_the_files_here [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-04-2001).] [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-04-2001).] [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-05-2001).] [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-06-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hentzau,Okay, this is what I've downloaded so far. Patch 1.5 (actually had this before joining the forum and have installed it), Nations V2, and patch 1.5.2.9. Now you said I also need 6.0 and 6.1. I went to the website you recommended but I did not see any files with a version 6.0 or 6.1. Are these Plane Sets? Next question. If I am not interested in flying WWI missions what should I D/L and what is not necessary. BTW.....thanks for the help. Wulfe

Wulfe- go back to the website in my earlier post. Click on the getting started link. This page has links to all of the on line standard files (1.5.2.9 is not officially the std yet). You'll see ezplanations on why you need them, and a link to installion instructions for Nations IP: Logged |

Do what Da Jug Head says to get the 6.0 and 6.1 pack. I don't have links to those two on my site since they are the WW2 stuff which is what you want. All those other downloads that you mention having already are necessary also. The instructions at Da Jug Heads site are very good also, but if you have absolutely no computer knowledge you can follow that string on the WW1 forum. I'm trying to make it so that anyone can follow it.IP: Logged |

You might want to hang on for the WW1 stuff, There is a version 2 pack due out very soon with a lot of improvements. Practically all the planes have had the FM's tweaked ( some wouldn't take off under AI control before ) plus graphic improvements, DM upgrades and some new planes. Pack 1 was good.....pack 2 will be BETTER Check the thread in WW1 section for more details. IP: Logged |
