OK, this is kind of hard with all of the cheering going on around here, however, I would greatly appreciate some sort of explanation as to:

- What happened to this site. I may not understand said explanation, but I would still like to hear it! It will make me feel better.

- Why was it down so long (according to many friends on other boards on many varied topics, it was infinitely longer than anything they had ever encountered by far)

- Why were there so many "I emailed so-and-so but got no response" posts by various moderators who were trying to figure things out for us all. It certainly gave the impression of lack of concern from the higher ups.

As Nat said the previous time we had a serious outage, perhaps we should continue to build a permanent home elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I want to stay here for sure. However, if the powers that be aren't behind it, I would hate to be building up a body of knowledge on which the plug may be pulled at any moment without notice.

Much concern was expressed about lost members since not everyone (particularly more casual players) knew where to go in times of trouble. The ship may have been saved this time, but what about the next? Depending upon the answers to the questions above, perhaps we should abandon ship in an organized, inclusive mannner in order to save as many as possible rather than wait until she's rolling over and it's every man or woman for themselves? (Please forgive the naval analogies flight simmers!)

Well, maybe he is a party pooper because of the timing but 3dp's thoughts and concerns are legitimate and need to be addressed before this happens again.

No message board is secure these days. Go find one if you want but this one is staying right here.

Oh, it will be down again soon. Joel is going to update us to the latest softeware.

I guess what most of us who are concerned are looking for is just some serious reassurance. As I've said in other posts, I'm EXTREMELY sympathetic to the powers that be. Business is business and that's their main concern. No sin in that. I did not even start to say anything about the situation until it was down almost a month.

I liken it to my current job search. I am the kind of person who finds cold calling VERY difficult. So when I get up the nerve, call someone and end up leaving a message (the person I need to talk to is almost NEVER there), and then they never get back to me, it's mentally devastating. All I want is honesty. If they'd call me back and tell me to go jump off a bridge, fine! Just let me know. That's all I think we'd like here, some honesty.

If for instance, they were phasing the site out, fine, that's their perogative. As I said, business is business. I think it only fair though that they keep us honestly informed. If this board goes away for good, it won't be that it went, it will be how it went which leaves an impression on the community and will affect our future attitudes ($) towards products associated with them.

As Hawk said, no BB is secure, but I guess that this site being tied to a particular company/game (as opposed to dedicated BB services) makes one jittery when trouble occurs.

Joel has stated that there are no plans to delete this site and the fact that they will be upgrading it soon gives it some solidity.

I would like to see an offsite backup or copy /snapshot of this forum/directory as is.
before the planned upgrade and it being sent to Hawk for example in the post.

A snapshot from today, if the something did happen that this remote backup would be nice for all here and an extra saftynet.

I hope there is no small print that this forum is now the property of the hosting company.

it would be in the best interest off ALL

The backup could be installed on another host server. As a live backup/ snapshot in time,, lobby. and the url posted.

We could then , between us, purchase the www.sdoe.com which seems free at the moment. And then own that, and direct it to where ever we want in the case of another problem.
