Since all the previously released skins are going to need to be redone, and I don't want to have to do this twice, I was wondering what the final decision is.I'm happy with 512. Yes, 1024 does look a little better, but it does eat up a lot of file space. Which is an issue for me personally. Also there are still a few mapping issues floating around (P-38's, B-17 vstab, Corsair tails...etc). I've learned to work around most of them but if we are going to have the higher res. skins, I would think you guys would want us to make them as accurate as possible. Yes I would fix them myself if I had the ability, but I don't. I have been told that it's easy to do. So whats the big answer? IP: Logged |

It should be the artists choice, not the users. Since the 1024 texture can be adjusted down for the slower machines, the artist who wants to put in the extra work for "perfection" in a 1024 texture should go ahead. The people w/o the drive space for them can use smaller skins. It's like the custom missions. Some mission builders went to a lot of effort making detailed missions and campaigns. Not all the machines could run them, but that shouldn't hold back the mission builders. Eventually most people will have drives big enough for the larger textures and the machines to display them. My guess is most skins will be 512 but a lot of 1024 "labor of love" skins will be available too.IP: Logged |

I think, for the time being, that 512 will be most popular as it is a good compromise on file size and processing requirements.That being said, the ability to paint and fly planes that are capable of 1024 should go ahead. I for one have started some 1024 skins on large aircraft - where the extra detail realy is benefitial. When I release the 1024 skins, they will also be available in 512 and 256. Just some thoughts. Assuming the skin maker wants to... I love the high res schemes but I agree with Yardstick - 256x256 looks the same through a gunsight as 512x512. Any remapping or additional mapping should take into account old schemes. This was done beautifully on the new P51D model. We have a wealth of schemes to pick from already, so to the person/people who will be updating the mapping, please try to squeeze in the extra bits in places so that old schemes aren't horribly distorted (ie don't remap from scratch).
