Dictator is kind of a harsh word. I prefer Grand Poobah. It has that kind of cultish, fearless leader sount to it. weaselIP: Logged |

Hi Siggi!I think you are scaring these guys with the word "Dictator", maybe "Prez" or "Chief", you know, something a little lighter. My feelings? Well I think flight sim guys are way to transiant to organize very well. I mean they come and go and to have one guy as head and 11 other guys under him is hard enough in the corporate world with real money involved. This sim is so many things. To you and alot of others, it is a War sim. A sim to fight battles and form aliances. To me, and some others, it is both a War sim and a hobby sim. I love airplanes, all airplanes, and because they fly best in this sim I build 'em and fly 'em. Some I build don't even have guns. So, to say to all here that we must "organize and elect a leader" is going to be a tough road. Then again, could happen. Oh by the way Siggi in case you missed my response to your post in my "Rules" post; I am not Pete. Just a guy that has "Hawk" as his SDOE handle. http://www.rcwarbirds.com/ [This message has been edited by Hawk (edited 06-20-2001).] IP: Logged |

IMO we don't need to go this far, at least as a permanent organization. We do need some leadership to resolve the current crisis and I think that is happening if you read the other threads. We've heard the term "elitist" used too much as it is. A permanent tribunal would enhance this concept. This is a community of individuals working towards a common goal, each in his own way. It gets a little chaotic at times (how many times have we gone thru similar growing pains over the last three years) but it always settles down. However, we do need some agreed upon rules or guidelines concerning the release and use of planepaks, and the definition of "online standard" and stick to them. Collectively I think we can come up with these without having Dictators, Pres, Grand Pooba's, etc. Our current chaos is caused by too many combinations of 1.5 and 2.9 patches and 6.0 and 6.1 planepaks - all being used online at one time by the community - not just testers. And the difficulty in installing them. "Dictator" hmmmmm....is "Siggi" short for "Sig Heil"? (just joking) IP: Logged |

Its short for "nightmare" if your name is... whoops, wrong board. **Ok, for those who don't get it its an allusion to something you're aware of if you visit Siggi's IL2 board. It has nothing to do with anything going on here. It was a light hearted bit of humour for my beleagered colleage and squadmate. My apologies to those who misinterpreted it. Couldn't be called dictator if he admitted to having a council! IP: Logged |

Weasel pops his head out of his hole. He looks around and doesn't see anyone. Then he scampers over to what he sees laying before him. There on the ground is the dictators scepter! It's diamond and ruby studed and solid gold! It is also a full 3 inches longer than he is (and that is including his tail!). He tries to lift one side to no avail. Then a glint of light catches his eye. There on the ground next to the scepter is the dictators Crown. It is much taller than weasel is so he jumps up on the side of it. There is nothing inside of it so he jump down into the middle of it. The gold look very polished inside and weasel feels like he is surrounded by a golden castle wall! Bordem came quickly so he chases his tail 2 or 3 times. What's that? Was that a noise? Weasel quickly leaps up on the side of the crown. There is nothing there but weasel decides to leave and quickly find his hole again... weaselIP: Logged |

This was started back with FS was firsted release with the group OPP. (old guys remember them?)OPP was OpenPlane Projects and the dedicated crew "policed" all the projects and kind of watched over the community and projects to make sure planes were not worked on by two people and other little things. Since the groups death problems with the whole OP system have grew till now they are just hard to keep track of. I'm not sure what we will do but i'm sure we will all work something out. The use of the new OpenPlane folder and being able to "turn on" and "turn off" things int he menu is really how we need to do. Simply moving ETO, PTO, WW1 into par files or folders and placing them in the OP folder seems to keep everything under control but it's still a good idea to setup one place so people can go there and get a list of what they need. To many places have these types of pages and many haven't been updated in some time. IP: Logged |

Siggi, we just voted down your idea, not you. It's good to see you wanting to get involved again. As you can tell, we're "not quite dead yet", just going through some growing pains due to the new patches and 6.0/6.1 conflicts. Been there, done that, and survived. IP: Logged |

Remembering what the OPS guys went through was one reason I felt I had to vote no. I do not necessarily think it a bad idea, it is just that I think - and this is only IMO - that it wouldn't work the way it was intended, that original supporters might become eventual resisters, and the resultant flaming would get them all to quit.As for the idea, in theory, it is a good one. Thanks, Siggi, for taking the time to suggest it ( and the risk, hehe ). I am just such a dang pessimist....
