Thats it!! Sorry lads but it's time to vent. But before I do allow me to send out a heartfelt "THANK YOU" to all those who made an effort to help out this computer moron. Namely Hentzau, Argon, Da Jug Head, Pye, Nealg and Siggi. Your contributions and efforts were greatly appreciated. ( God, I hope I didn't forget anyone. ) Unfortunately my frustration level has peaked and my fuse has burned to the quick. S.D.O.E. is by far the best PC game I have ever found in any genre but I just wish that I could play the damb thing. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing anyone. I understand that S.D.O.E. is a community of gamers who are just trying to create the best game possible but I feel the game is becoming out of reach for the novice, recreational computer user. I have made endless attempts to figure out how to make the latest versions of this game work with no success. Should a person really need a 2 year course in advanced computer technology just to be able to play a flight sim on line? I'm sorry for the rant guys, but you have to understand, I used to really, really like playing the on line version of this game. And now, because I'm a novice and don't understand the intricacies of this machine in front of me, I can no longer play it. Much like golf the frustration is no longer worth the effort. I also realize that upon posting this rant I will more than likely be black-balled and/or ostracized but nevertheless I would like to thank all of you for the one year that I was able to enjoy this game. Now you'll have to excuse me. I think I'll go turn my Fighter Squadron game disc into an ashtray. Braveheart.

Sorry Braveheart, but get on rw as PSI says and we'll try to help. You can grab my ICQ number from roster at site--I just got it working again. PSI,the 26th email is down--I haven't been able to use for a few days, but Barcat has given us a new one. To use we have to learn a little swedish. Write me at my other address on profile when you have time.[This message has been edited by casualty26ac (edited 06-17-2001).] IP: Logged |

Dang it!! I just feel bad I couldn't do more to help. No flames from me, man - I empathise with your frustration, and apologize that I wasn't more help.It has reached a point where even I have trouble keeping it all straight, and I have been part of this sim since pretty much the start. It is too bad that the same thing that makes this sim so fantastic is the same thing that makes it so frustrating for many, and that is the plethora of different releases. The advent of the installers has made a world of difference, but even those can lead to bloated folders and directories, eventually requiring that one do manual maintenance on the structure. That is one reason I have my original install still intact. If I ever uninstall to reinstall fresh, about half of it will have to be done manually, and extensive use of registry editing required, to rid it of paths that no longer point anywhere and references to installs ( like 5.3b) that no longer exist on my system due to deletion of files. But if you can hold off on using the CD as a ashtray for a bit, those here with the proper knowledge will eventually come forward, and all will suddenly become clear. I hope.

Braveheart - Even if you do take SDOE off your computer, I urge you, don't throw it out. As this community grows, more and more people in it are asking for aids to installing things, so instead of having the 3-year old core of computer geeks running the show, we're going to see more and more .exe installers and stuff like that.
