Braveheart; I'll try, although I do not know your current game setup. I am presuming you have it up to 1.5 and PP 6.0, and that you have the PP 6.1 zip file.

First-unzip PP6.1 into a temp folder that you create, like Unzipped or something.
Next- Go to your Fighter Squadron folder and locate the current parfiles. You should see a data12.par, but likely no data13.par.
Next- Rename data12.par in your Fighter Squadron folder to data12.old, or copy it to a backup area, in case you want to return to PP 6.0 for any reason.
Next - Copy the new PP6.1 data12 and data13.par files into your FighterSquadron folder. Since you have renamed the other data12.par file, nothing should be overwritten.
Next - go to your Media/Aircraft folder, and rename your Aircraft folder to something like Bacup_Aircraft, something along those lines. Then copy the new PP6.1 Aircraft folder to your Media folder. By renaming the other AC folder, you still have all your Aircraft add ons from PP 6.0, including skins. You would have to copy them from this renamed folder to the new one for them to show in 6.1, but that beats re-installing them. I would hold off on that at first, though, until you are familiar with what is in 6.1.
Last - If you wish, go through your PP6.1 unzipped temp folder and locate Network.bmp. Note the directory structure in which it is located; then go to your Media folder and locate the same Network.bmp. What this does is show the Plane Pack version in the upper right corner of your screen when you go online. Backup the old one, and copy the new one over the old one if you want.

Now boot the sim, you should have PP 6.1 installed. If for any reason you want to go back to 6.0, just rename your new data12 and data13.par files to something like .bak, rename data12.old to data12.par, and rename your 2 Aircraft folders in reverse of above.

That is one way, there are others, including a way to do it with just the beta patch, but hopefully this helps.

Braveheart, bear in mind that 6.1 is still a beta, although used by a lot of us. The final "official" 6.1 will have a much simpler installer like the earlier planpaks. So if you get too frustrated and give up on installing this "beta" be patient and don't give up on us, an easier one will show up one day.

Boy is this an example of the "Where the hell are the planes" thread.

Neal, I took your explanation and added a page to fscentral on installing 6.1 (I modified the format slightly since I could make a numbered list out of it)

It can be reached from the getting started page or the tips page- I did give credit to you for it at the top of the page. Hope you don't mind.

Spin, do you wnat the page or do you want to link to it?

Jerry, 6.1 is NOT a beta. This is a common misunderstanding as the readmes haven't been updated yet. As for the installer, there will need to be 2 versions. One with the installer for PC players, and one without for Mac players (whenever that's actually released)

Da Jug Head,

6.1 is not a stand alone plane pak like the others, it needs 6.0 to run.

6.1 does not have an installer like previous planepaks.

6.1 has not been accepted as the official online standard.

Call it what you want but 6.1 is not a finished product yet. I wanted Braveheart to know this so he doesn't give up on us thinking that this is the final version.
