Hey guys and gals, well here's my first single release drivable vehicle since the Ground Pack. This is the Russian Zis-5 truck with 4 M31 300mm "Katioucha" rockets. This vehicle was requested to me by Jeeves, and I in turn requested Scorpion Rouge to have a go at the model. Well, the model and textures are done excellently, and I've finished motorising it. It drives like a dream (beware of CoG tho) and well, just make sure you're never on the receiving end of the rockets! I have reduced the rockets range down to 2 miles, thanks Jeeves for information on this vehicle and the rockets. Here are some pics: Damage Model... This vehicle is quite detailed. Those of you with low-spec video cards may experience lower FPS when using this vehicle. If so, reduce the detail level. I have an 8mb TNT1 and I never get below approx 20 - 24 FPS zoomed right in and that's with both Terrain and Object detail turned up 100% in SDOE. For specific poly counts at different distances, see the Projects forum and click on the Kat project. I've had to "dumb down' some of the 3d parts to help aid in increasing FPS.
Make sure you have Nations before attempting to use this vehicle! It has Soviet Union designation in SDOE, so unless you have Nations, it won't show up in SDOE. Also, to enable the rockets to work in SDOE, you will need to add a line to your startup.ppf. Please add the following to your startup.ppf file found in the media folder: "aircraft/weapons/katrkt.sm" This vehicle comes with Training and Hangar missions, GUI images and historical information. Those look great Harman! I noticed you say you have a TNT1 card. I have a 16meg one sitting in a closet and wondered if they support 512 textures? I thought they di, but wasn't sure. I was going to send it to someone that need one within the US. IP: Logged |

Harman, Kicked the hell out of the U-boats and then turned my attention to the lighthouse. Blew it up with one catistrophic blast. Had to rewrite the trainer mission though, it was just to hard to get that top heavy thing off the hill in one piece. You're right about the power that the rockets have though, wow!Love the DM on this one, but I do have one question, did you guys model in a glass windshield? If so can this be illiminated? I think this would help the FR's for some folks if so. I may have been seeing a texture anomaly, dunno. but thanks to all that contributed to this fine effort  P IP: Logged |

Psi, I hope the rockets were like that in real. Yeah the hill-start is tricky, but what better way to demonstrate the DM.  Yes, there is a glass windscreen and rear window and side windows too, and yes these can be deleted easily if wanted, but I don't think it will help the FR's much, then again I've never tried the truck without it so I'm only guessing. Ya I can see out ok Harman but it seems to flash. In other words it isn't a constant texture for my graphics. As it is I get about 25 to 35 FR's in that trainer and if I can delete it and get 5 more then I would do it. Any improvement of FR's makes me a happy man Thanks Harman...P Well I took the glass tif out and I couldn't see anything but green Harman. Yeah Psi there is a texture for the windows, to get rid of the window...if you have OpenPlaneStudio, you can open the sm file for it, click on the front Windshield and hit Delete. Then Save and close. Or tell me if you'd like me to send you a new version without glass. If anyone else is having the same window flashing prob, I might as well reupload it with no front windows.Cheers Jeeves, yeah the CoG is a shame, but that's how it would be with a huge framework over the truck. Harman, Yes please could you do that for me, I don't have the studio and wouldn't know how to do it anyway. If it's too much trouble for you it's not that much of a problem for me to live with it  Werner, I certainly hope the patch team isn't finished, I not so sure it's a great thing. In concept it is the best thing thaT has happened to SDOE but I feel that there are many things to be worked out. Last night Gremlin shot me down in a JU88 with one bullet. Others have said that they have had problems with the PP6.1 but I don't feel that it's all the PP. I believe that the patch at this point is incomplete and more need be done to fine tune this thing or it will kill SDOE... P IP: Logged |

well, the model looks great but i get really really low FR's and when i ran the rocket training mission there was no rockets.last time i checked rocket sounds were not HC and could be changed. file names are as follows: RocketFlight.wav RocketLaunch.wav RocketLaunch1.wav RocketLaunch2.wav I haven't tried to change them but I do have some cool sounds I could add if I could pull myself away from jesscia long enough to work on something else. **update** i was wrong, i'll talked to VDU about it since i need to take about a few other things. Razer, the vehicle is quite FR hoggy, the model used to look so much better than this even, but was using way too many polys (over 4000). I've tried reducing the polys as much as I could, but it still needs more reducing it seems. It helps the FRs if you reduce the obj detail slider in SDOE I've found.Regarding the rockets not showing, make sure the following line is added to your startup.ppf: "aircraft/weapons/katrkt.sm" Yeah I knew about those rocket filenames too, but even when you modify them, they still appear to sound as the originals used to in-game for some reason. I tried to change them for my mortar vehicles, but didn't succeed. I hope I'm wrong somehow though I'd love to get those sounds working... ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online
