OK-- I have been thinking about the loadout work I have been doing-- and on how best to clean it up. Discussions on whether to use or drop the general loadout options (Light, heavy bombing, etc...)-- have been pretty overwhelming in favor of keeping the specific loadout options. The problem with this was that it meant missions done before had to be updated- and I wasn't at the time up to the project. Then I realized that in many cases, the missions had to be updated anyways!! Jerry had started up a discussion thread a while back on the Spit 1a and it came out that it never carried any ordinance...and I have found a couple other planes for which that is also true. Well-- this planes have in some cases (but not all)-- bombing and rocket missions in their training missions....with the accurate loadouts I have done (and I have been using some reliable sources-- including a few of you out there )these will have to be deleted or changed. So-- here is my offer....After I complete the work on loadouts, I will then go through all the plane pack trainers and update them to the new loadout options...should only take me about a year- but I am game Call me a glutton for punishment LOL And 2 requests to you: 1. Those of you in the business of making missions, please use the specific loadout options if you can....for the most part-- these remain unchanged as far as type of bombs used....the only thing that has changed in these are gun values (if changed warranted that) and explosive power. This will save from having to do so later... 2. If there are online or offline missions and campaigns that use the general options (and I am sure there are probably a few hundred of these!)-- if the creators of these could go in and change to specific options, that could make things easier....I would love to be able to change them all myself-- but that is a big job for one man to do....the fact that I am willing to update all the trainers I think is work enough So-- I hope to hear your thoughts on this!! I know it is a pain in the ass....but I really fell it is worth it to clean these loadouts up a bit-- they are a real mess now But I am trying to make things better... ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves,I'm not a programmer and certainly not a mission builder, but retro-fitting all these missions (Training and user built) seems like an awful lot of work for a lot of people. Maybe the patch team could come up with some way that if a mission referred to Light, Heavy bombing, etc. it would default to one of the more accurate specific loadouts. You or anyone else could still change the missions as time/desire allowed but the old ones would still be usable. I just don't see a day when "all" the old missions and campaigns are changed to the point where you can eliminate Light, Heavy, etc.from the loadout folder without crashing a lot of missions. Or am I missing something? IP: Logged |

The trainers should not be too bad-- you are talking (at least as far as the PP is concerned)--no more than 60 planes or so...and for each- we look into only a couple missions (usually Ground Attack and Dive Bombing).I know it is a lot of work-- but the fact is, the loadouts at present are way too large-- due to the redundancy on them-- it may have been better just to have left it all alone to begin with and stay with light and heavy bombing-- but it is too late to change that now ....and there are new weapons to add in which will make them even larger-- but I really feel these new weapons should be added-- so I acn either not include them (bad idea)-- and get rid of some of the duplicity of the current ones which I am trying to do.... ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves how about you/we break from the old pattern of Take Off, Landing, Dive Bombing, Ground Attack and Air to Air Combat? Instead have missions specific for each plane. ie The Spit 1a should not dive bomb, or carry any bombs but could go on Strafing missions etc. Also if whoever was making the skip bombing bombs we could set up missions for that. And maybe Air to Air missions invovling Intercepts and Angles and Energy Tactics???Too much work? Snake IP: Logged |

Yes....but it is being done now The DIME project has my team working on making the training missions for the original 10 better--I will let Snick fill in specifics if he wants-- but it does vary from the norm-- I can say that ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves, did you notice that the the cannon on the SpitIX fire at about 1000rpm and the brownings fire at about 500rpm? They seem to be all screwed up but I don't know about the other Spits.Snake IP: Logged |

Just noticed this thread (actually just noticed that Jeves mentioned my name ). Hmmm. Nope not giving things away yet.I will say this though, Jeeves and crew are doing a fine job of mission building (They are not rebuilding the existing ones, they are building new ones.) They are also responsible for double checking the DIME group when it come to historical accuraccy (There will bee a full length Movietone production posted at the Snickwerks soon.... ) As a result, wait I said no secrets didn't I... You will see some of the new things then.... If there is something in particular you would like to see in the training missions out of the ordinary, go ahead and post it or email Jeeves or myself. Jeeves, I remember doing some tests to see what the rate of fire differences are in SDOE. I used only loadouts and found that there was only two choices between 1200 and 0. And they were 600 and 1200rpm. I don't remember above that but is it still like that in SDOE?Snake IP: Logged |

Jeezes, there's definitely SOME problem with the firing rates, and I think he's got it right, it's either 600 or 1200. Still you should do what you're doing, put in the right ones because at some point the problem might get fixed and then we'll get the right rates.BTW, a lot of the planes also have rediculous ranges set for the guns. For any of the 7.9's it should be 1000 and anything bigger should be 1200. I seem to remember most of the bomber guns are set to 3000. There may have been a reason for this, but I don't remember what it was. Maury IP: Logged |

So then change the values of 3000 to 1200?I have the the 7.9's are 1000....what about the .303's which are also lighter guns? .50's and the 131's and 151'a should be higher.....and the cannons? I would imagine they fall off a bit faster- but again what should their ranges be? Thanks for bringing that up Maury-- I had been meaning to ask about it, but anytime I remembered, I was nowhere near a computer ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Changing subject here. Just a little status report. Jeeves, I've done about half of the B-17 missions now (done with 10 or 11 or so). Are there any Lanc fixes over the horizon, maybe a new FM or a completely new .sm file?? It's totally screwed up on my PC.IP: Logged |

Heya semm...Yes there is....I only have one little thing, but wtg may have more, I am not sure. The loadout at present is giving me particular troubles with a few of the new weapons- but once I iron them out, I will e-mail you all I have Back to the other topic-- so if I change the gunRanges on the bombers, does this mean that the bombers won't be able to shoot me down from half a mile away? If so-- then why hasn't this been done before LOL.... One last thing... Should I drop the "Cows" loadout from the 17F and 17G? Or should we keep them in for the newbies? ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves =FC= IP: Logged |

These loadout revisions can be made now for the individual A/C but until the next PP reflects the changes no one will be able to use them. This will have to be coordinated with the next PP otherwise it will lead to MM (if applicable) online. Jeeves I may have a site for you on the ballistics, I'll get back to you via email...P IP: Logged |

Agreed Psi--- once (if) I finish these-- I will send them along to spin with the new wepaons and he will hopefully put them up for testing-- and if they pass muster, I would imagine they would be implemented in the next avaialable plane pack from that time....Everytime I get close, I find something else I can add that makes them that more accurate-- right now, I am checking the explosive warheads of all the cannon ammo and changing the values to one standard for each gun-- this is my reference site for this data: http://member.nifty.ne.jp/flying_dutchman/reference/guns-j.html Changing these ranges will also take a bit of time-- but will add to accuracy as well, so I think it is worth it Maybe I should write up a tutorial of this work for those currently working on planes so that the values will be the same all along the board? ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!
